Vancouver 2010 was the first Winter Olympics I paid close attention to, but haven't really been that invested in them much before or since. I liked the Sochi ceremony, even though it was a piece of Putinist theatre.
Why does Lillehammer 1994 hold so much nostalgia? It seems to really outshine Albertville in the history books.
Sochi were the first WOG live into Australia on free to air TV via the Ten Network who were broadcasting their first Olympics since Seoul 1988.

I don't mind them. Flo is the sidekick as with MukMuk from Vancouver.
Tina = Cortina
Milo = Milan -
Rio 2016 was held in the Southern Hemisphere Winter and Brisbane in 2032 will be the 2nd Summer Olympics held in the Southern Hemisphere winter.
Sydney had 7 years to prepare for the Games from the day Samaranch said "The Winner Is Sydney" to the lighting of the Cauldron at Stadium Australia. The Gabba is old and is the smallest Olympic Stadium at 50,000. -

The opening ceremony was short, straight to the point, solid and well planned. Really loved the story of this opening ceremony. Still better than the poop show that Dentsu did for Tokyo olympics ceremonies after they disgustingly kicked Mikiko out.
Better than the last two normal Olympic ceremonies. South Korea knows how to put on a show!
For the Closing if no host selected it'll be simply "see you at the IVth Youth Winter Olympics in 2028" without a host city mentioned.- 1

A simple but fun and exciting Opening Ceremony with plenty of K-Pop. Crowd makes it an atmosphere inside the Yongpyong Dome unlike in Tokyo and Beijing the last two Olympics.

The legacy of Lausaane 2020 is a springboard to a Swiss-wide 2038 Winter Olympics

Hard to believe it's 4 years since Lausanne 2020 just before COVID hit and disrupted the next two normal Olympics in Tokyo and Beijing. We were lucky to get through to the 2020 W YOG.
Will be looking forward to this. Brings me back memories to PyeongChang 2018 which seems like an eternity six long years ago. Let the YOG begin!- 4

A Brisbane River OC similar to what we will see this year at Paris 2024 or hybrid River/Stadium ceremony a-la Melbourne 2006 Comm Games

Before hosting next year's Olympics, Paris submitted to host the 2008 and 2012 Olympics but came a distant third to Toronto and eventual winners Beijing in 2008 and lost out to London in 2012 by just 4 votes.

Longchamp isn't used for the equestrian events as mentioned in the 2008 and 2012 bid books. Equestrian at next summer's Olympics will be held at the Versailles rather than Longchamp.

Never stood a chance with Sydney hosting 2000 and Buenos Aires hosting 2004 would've meant two consecutive Southern Hemisphere Olympics. Cape Town also threw their hat in the ring but lost to Athens.

Australia's Nine Network first Olympic promo for Paris 2024. "Land Down Under" performed with graphics simply the official branding and font for Paris 2024.
Expect them to release another promo on 26 January to mark six months out from the Games -

Sydney had teething problems during the build up with the SLC 2002 bribery scandal hovering over the IOC during the lead-up to the 2000 Olympics. Also the beach volleyball venue at Bondi drew controversy and weeks before the Opening Ceremony a grand jury indicted the former SLCOOG 2002 president and vice president. Sydney in the end hosted "The Best Olympic Games Ever"
Even then the Sydney Olympics had budget and cost blowouts

Singapore hosted the YOG in 2010 with an OC at the Float@Marina Bay. Events can be spread across the island

Ironically these were the two German cities that previously hosted the Olympics putting their hand up to host a Summer and Winter Games in 2000 and 2018.
-
The Closing Ceremony is at the Ampitheatre in Verona rather than in Cortina
-
Munich bid for the 2018 Winter Games and Berlin the 2000 Summer games but both lost out to PyeongChang and Sydney respectively

Singapore is a possible host joint with Malaysia

Nine Network is the home of sport in Australia with the Olympics tied with them for 8 years. 7 had the Olympics from 2016-2022 and placed a bid for approx AUD230 million -AUD250 million. NEC in February paid AUD305 million. The offer from the former home of the Olympics was less than that from NEC.

Victoria 2026 CG failure comes into mind and the Swiss Olympic organising committee will have to learn from the lessons of the debacle trying to have a "host region" instead of a host or co-host

LA in 4 years time want to do a two stadium ceremony to symbolise the old and new with the Opening at the Coliseum and SoFi (Inglewood). Main OC at Inglewood with protocol element at the Coliseum and the roles reversed for the CC with the first segment at the Coliseum then the protocol (lowering of the flag, handover, Brisbane 2032 preview and extinguishing of the flame) at Inglewood.
Wonder how this will work.
