  1. Another one to the tally of Tokyo 2020 curse.
  2. As a huge JRPG nerd, the parade track list was way too short. Couldn't they have secured more music? In the end, with the creative direction passing hands so many times, it seems no one wanted to take ownership. Everything just felt phoned in. I am so disappointed in Japan.
  3. I said this 5 years ago and really hate the fact that some of it came true.
  4. So what ever happened to the music piece in this promo? I've been waiting for YEARS to know the name of the composition and the artist behind it, but I've officially given up realizing it was forever scrapped along with the original motif and logo.
  5. You never stopped being a terrible poster on here, I see.
  6. It was the most apathetic ceremony I'd ever seen, even considering the circumstances. It was ****.
  7. Russia will remain wholly banned. Why would that be any different?
  8. Ironic that the games that had to be postponed were the ones that were actually ready to be on time.
  9. The postponement is an opportunity to rethink whatever was planned for the opening ceremony, and hopefully we'll see something relevant to the pandemic, and an informal declaration of "victory" over the virus in the ceremony of 2021. You can bet the last thing I want to see is yet another dated message about nuclear proliferation. Especially when the idea is always so mistakenly extrapolated to nuclear energy generation, which will always be necessary to have.
  10. There is no "lockdown" or declared state of emergency in Tokyo.
  11. I wonder what NBC would say about a Fall olympics.
  12. Abe will make a declaration on the 13th about things going forward, we will have a much better idea of what measures take place in the coming months. He should have authority to declare state of emergency at this point.
  13. They can only show so much in a ceremony. And in the case of Japan, there's so much to work with. I myself got treated to Ainu folk performances while in Hokkaido. Also, my attention was brought to the Golden Kamui manga at the place I was staying. There is a lot of appreciation for Ainu culture in Northern Japan. So maybe they can save it for when the Winter olympics return to Sapporo.
  14. I had a good look at the official merch featuring characters, and I started to question if everything being used to highlight the pop culture is intended to have a worldwide appeal, or just things the Japanese will recognize while the rest of us are scratching our heads.
  15. Downright farcical. I wonder what bullshit excuse they come up in 2032 to make the US march last. For now, IOC has ruined spirit of the parade is ruined and I can't think of a worse disrespect to foreign languages and their alphabets.
  16. They're going to have to redo the venue PR video for the 3rd time /facepalm
  17. Transport would be free for ticket holders? That's news to me.
  18. I wholeheartedly disagree, but since L.A. did it first I wouldn't mind if we see jetpacks again in the next L.A. games. And you don't need to tell me it's technically not a jetpack. I know and the concept is still the same.
  19. Ugh, terrible. That crap has been beaten to death and legitimately the last thing I want to see at the OC. I really don't feel like being preached or talked down to. I've had enough of that crap already.
  20. What the heck is a "stadium-theater" director, and why do you think anyone in the opening event committee would benefit from consulting some Chinese dude? You realize this is the TOKYO Olympics, right? I'm assuming the British didn't feel any need to consult any Chinese dude for their own thing, did they? So why bring up Chinese dudes now?
  21. Had a chance to stroll around Meiji jingu Gaien this September. I'm so glad that the new stadium isn't going to interfere with all the surrounding greenery. This stadium is the epitome of what Agenda 2020 is supposed to be about.
  22. This is just disgusting. You'd think that they gave the games to Istanbul and not Tokyo. Another thing: I can guarantee Japan is going off easy with international coverage of this snafu. Can you imagine the backlash if it was a majority muslim host such as Turkey?
  23. The IOC does appear to be committed to support every initiative for cost reduction. It's actually the sport federations crying foul at broken promises. It all comes back to how TOCOG submitted their bid originally, and the expectations built upon it. Part of the reason Tokyo won the 2020 bid was because they confidently pitched all those new, glitzy venues with the impression that actually making them wasn't going to be a big deal. Now we're scrambling to see what can be trimmed, moved and retrofitted. This is so uncharacteristic of Japan. It's might set an unfortunate reality where Agenda 2020 only matters after the bid is won. For a sport federation, however, it's just an outcome that amounts to a bait and switch. So, of course they're going to protest.
