  2. 10 years ago, eh? Jeez time flies. Time to look over my old albums from the games. To start, here’s me on my first day at London 2012

  4. Yes, unexpectedly cathartic and not a little emotional watching that.

  5. Well that was fun, if weird. Good to see the city centre feature at the end. Nice sequence with Max and the baton too, always good to see a baton run with some genuine danger . Denise completely the right choice for the final runner too. I hope wherever they put the bull in the end is nice and prominent, it's seriously impressive and it'll be a very good landmark for Birmingham. Bring on the games

  6. I've decided I quite like the compromise use of LED screens (on the Bullring stage and the ribbon round the field of play). They're using them to enhance the setting, not to dominate

  9. Ceremony has been pretty weird so far but the production values are top notch. Much better than the last two Olympic ceremonies combined in all honesty, though.

  12. Like I've said before I have a bit of a soft spot for Birmingham, and I can't pretend to know the city too well, I've only visited a few times and only to the city centre, but I'm quite surprised by just how well the city's scrubbed up. They've even made that godawful Lego block between Victoria and Centenary Square look presentable Looking forward to this, it feels almost exotic even though it's in England because it looks like it's going to be really local. This makes it feel a bit less sad that the Games are just alternating between the UK and Australia. That said, we should acknowledge that this should've been Africa's time. I hope Durban can host soon.

  13. Anyone know when the ceremony actually starts? I know the BBC 1 coverage is from 7 but I'm expecting quite a lot of blabbering before the bits we're actually watching for. I assume 8:22? (Also is it worth having a live chat thread or will this do)

  14. And the quote of the night goes to Mick Malloy on "The Front Bar": "The Commonwealth Games, it's like the Olympics, but without the cheating". Never a truer word said!

  15. To the people and Games Bids forumers from Birmingham, we know that your organisers have done a fantastic job preparing. Now just enjoy what we are all confident will be one of, if not the best Commonwealth Games ever. All the very best.

  18. Agree. Doesn't give me much hope if they're relying on an act of 40 years ago to headline the event.

  19. There ought to be more innovation with the Olympic slogans. They are so corporate and watered down, why bother? I loved LA28's "Follow the Sun" and wish they would stick with it, it's the only slogan in recent memory that really stuck with me.
