  1. After London 2012 most of ceremonies, including regional games, have had a lot of prerecorded segments. Rio started with a pre- recorded clip “Aquele abraco”, PyeongChang started with a children clip (long and boring) and Tokyo will follow the same line. Honestly, I don’t like them. I prefer full live shows as Lima 2019 was.

  2. We have seen some very short footages of the next ceremony and I can’t help remembering some of the top moments of the previous summer games ceremonies. According to me, they are (starting in 1992): Barcelona 1992: The Mediterrean sea Atlanta 1996: Summer time Sydney 2000: Nature Athens 2004 : Clepsidra Beijing 2008 (Many top moments) : One world, one dream London 2012: Pandemonium Rio 2016: Pindorama What could be this time????

  3. Today is the day! The day that Brisbane joins the ranks of leading cities among the globe to become an OLYMPIC CITY! A shame that I cannot be in Brisbane for the significant moment and announcement due to lockdown and border closures but this won’t dampen the passion and pride that today will bring! All the very best to the Premier and the Lord Mayor as they try to convince the IOC members that Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and the Sunshine Coast should host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in eleven years time. What a golden opportunity this is! Let’s bring it home and GO FOR GOLD!

  5. - The blocks moving remind me heavily of a Pyeongchang 2018 opening ceremony segment (which ironically some japanese netizens acussed of kinda ripping out stuff from the 2016 handover - The poles at 0:08 are Matoi Flags. They were used by Edo era Firefighters to mark a place where a fire was happening or to quickly notify other firefighters: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matoi - Really intrigued to know what are those floating stones from 0:24 - 0:26 seems like the Placards will be based in japanese manga panels/dialogue boxes. Doesn't seem they will use very large props so far, more like they will be medium sized in a similar way to Pyeongchang and Rio.

  7. Should the olympics have a permanent site or site(s) - ie: london/los angeles/sydney/rome/tokyo/athens or could they do what the euros did and host different events in different countries?

  9. The Brisbane Lord Mayor just posted this. There is a lot of comments on social media saying no one wants the games etc. This basically silences those statements. With less than 24 hours until the International Olympic Committee decides on the 2032 host, it’s time to bust an Olympic-sized myth! That myth is the claim that we’re the only place interested in hosting the 2032 Games. It’s just plain wrong! While we’re currently the only Preferred Host, several other countries and cities have publicly put their hand up. These include cities in Hungary, China, India, Qatar, Indonesia, Spain and Germany. The Brisbane and south east QLD bid has the advantage of six years preparation, dating back to when Graham Quirk and the Mayors of south east QLD started the ball rolling in 2015. Tomorrow evening around 85 delegates from around the world will have the opportunity to vote “yes” or “no” to Brisbane 2032. While we’re quietly confident we’ve put our best foot forward, a “yes” vote is not something we’re taking for granted. If, heaven forbid, things do not go as we hope tomorrow, you can be sure there will be multiple cities stepping forward for this amazing opportunity.

  10. So you have no evidence? You have just publicly slandered a person in a very public manner with no evidence whatsover of something you are saying happened 30 years ago. Insuggest you consider the legal ramifications of what you have just posted because there are very clear laws against this.

  12. Care to give an ounce of evidence of this tired old line that you keep pushing ? Perhaps you need to get with the program and read about the new Oylmpic rules. You come on here once every few months, throw mud and then run off into the woods. If you want to be taken seriously, cough up some evidence …. if you have any. Then we can have an adult discussion.

  14. because lets be honest, (and i say this as a Brisbane resident) Brisbane is hardly a tier 1 city. But what Brisbane will show is that tier 2 cities can host the games opening up the hosting to many more cities

  16. This will not be a lavish show at Beijing style (despite all of us expected something like that), but a smaller and simple ceremony at Rio style which does not mean this won’t be spectacular and beautiful as Rio was. Not only for the covid context it is carried out, but also smaller and TV oriented ceremonies were more evident since Rio and their subsequent events: Kuala Lumpur 2017, Gold Coast 2018, Buenos Aires 2018, PyeongChang 2018, Lima 2019... all of them were in a smaller scale than the previous one, but they were truly fantastic. I think both ceremonies in Gold Coast and Lima can give a good outline of how small but breathtaking ceremonies can be done. Honestly, I won’t expect something “small and simple” for Beijing 2022. Chinese do not know the concept “simple” for their events.

  19. I thought the 2018 torch lighting was rather inelegant with that flaming big drill bit thing....and Kim Yuna looked terrified/miserable during the whole thing.
