  1. Here is my logo and brand applied to the venues for the games to give you all an idea how the logo could look in physical application:

  2. Thanks. I'm actually really proud myself. To get this far without politicking, "applying" the art on other media, or having to defend my work while putting down others, I consider myself a winner. :-) I let the work speak for itself and it got farther than I expected.

  3. Thanks to Nakamoto Kyu for that toe-yapping version of Sukiyaki. And thanks to palette for suggesting it. And thank you Palette and Soyoshi, for hosting our deliberations. Ladies and Gentlemen, Mesdames and Monsieurs, Herr Bach, Welcome back to Yoshi's Island. We've reached back here quicker than I expected. Luckily our graphics guys were ready. And luckily for the people of Nagoya and Tokyo, we've saved countless deaths by satisfying Godzilla by choosing a winning logo in the nick of time and enticing the big lizard to settle down with Soyoshi and family. We had a super quick resolution to the comp - the first time, I think, that our winner was settled in the second round of final voting. To announce who it was that won the hearts of the majority so quickly, I'd ask Herr Bach to get ready with the envelope. His speech writer was caught a but unprepared, though, so we'll leave the stage-German behind for this one. Okay, the big moment. The winner is............ Paul! Congratulations paul, who returned to the comp this year after a hiatus (he almost joined, but then withdrew late last year) to claim his unprecedented fifth title. So well done mate and well deserved. Certainly it was always the one to beat. Thanks for entering. In the end, the results were: A (nzl) - 8 votes B (mr.bernham) - 3 voyes C (paul) - 17 votes D (aismanggo) - 2 votes All votes were valid and the winner crowned by an absolute majority. So that's it for yet another logo comp. Thanks to all who participated this year, by entering or critiquing or voting. Hope you had fun. And hopefully I'll see you all back again for at least one more.

  4. With 30 members voting, we're now down to a top four in the Tokyo 2020 logo comp. Unfortunately, we now see barrack's design drop out! Thanks for entering barrack, it was great to see a past champ entering again, and making the finals in both sections. Well done! The final results were: A (nzl) - 10 B (barrack) - 1 C (mr.bernham) - 3 D (paul) - 12 (one vote from stir.ts re-allocated from E to D) E (aismanggo) - 4 (see above) All votes cast were valid. Okay, onto round 2: This voting round will be open for (approximately) 24 hours - it will close after 7am, Thursday January 15, Sydney time (8pm Jan 14 GMT). Voting will now be conducted in rounds until one entry has an absolute majority and is declared the winner. In this and following rounds, the logo with the lowest number of votes will be eliminated at the close of the poll. Vote in the poll for your favourite logo. You have ONE vote, so make it count. Your vote is public and can be seen by all. Entrants MAY now vote for their own logo if they wish. Votes are valid if cast by members of GamesBids as of December 1 2014 with a bona fide posting record. I will rule on the validity of any suspicious or disputed votes, or who constitutes a bona fide voting member. I will not vote in this, or any subsequent rounds, unless a tie-breaker vote is needed. Be fair and sportsmanlike, this is meant to be fun and the entrants all deserve RESPECT. Let's see if anyone's preferences short intros round. Good luck to all our remaining entrants! __ Godzilla watch: Sorry to say, Osaka has copped the lizard's wrath! The rampage is relentless. The people of Tokyo, and the cities in its path, are praying we find a winner quick. Make it so!

  6. Oh, come on Darcy. The renders are an integral part of the comps. And I do think they're fun and popular and serve a purpose in showing how the logos would look in-situ. I encourage them. We even had a whole section one year (the Durban year) just for such renders. Almost time to shut up shop for the year, if anyone wants to get in a late vote.

  7. Oh yay! What a relief that is! IDK how the boards survived without your informative & intuitive posts there for a while!

  8. The original base of the Jules Rimet trophy has been found in FIFA’s basement A priceless football historic artifact has been discovered in a basement in FIFA’s headquarters. For decades one of the biggest mysteries for football historians has been the location of the original Jules Rimet World Cup trophy. In 1954 the original trophy got updated with a new base, and that Jules Rimet trophy was given to Brazil in 1970 after the Selecao won their third World Cup. Then, in 1983, the most famous trophy in world football was stolen from the Brazilian Football Confederation’s head offices, never to be seen again. Incredibly, light a bolt out of the blue, it has now been revealed that the original base of the trophy has been found. As reported by the BB: According to the Fifa museum’s creative director David Ausseil, a staffer found the stone base of the Jules Rimet trophy in storage at Fifa headquarters last month. Ausseil told The Associated Press: “It’s like finding an Egyptian mummy. You can’t put a price tag on it because it’s family jewels.” “We thought (the base) was lost in Brazil. We think no FIFA president has seen it since Jules Rimet himself.” The 10cm tall, octagonal piece of semi-precious lapis lazuli carries the names of the first four World Cup winners: Uruguay and Italy each won twice between 1930 and 1950. http://www.101greatgoals.com/blog/kit/the-original-base-of-the-jules-rimet-world-cup-trophy-has-been-found-in-fifas-basement-pictures/

  9. What if a bunch of Euro IOCers don't vote for China so China is unable to develop winter sports and won't be able to dominate the Euros in the events they usually win at in the Winter Olympics? I know none of them would say it outright, but it's just a thought. Not everyone is moral in the IOC... Also this kinda bugged me before but why did we use Annecy as a threshold of how experience gets you hosting rights? They lost pretty bad...

  10. ^^ Sort of agree with you despite the rude post. If geopolitics plays a role as you think, Brazil would never win a bid against an European capital, one of the alpha capitals of the world and US President's hometown... And despite being very probable that no South American host SOG before 2040s, who knows the future, Tony?

  12. nzl's logo actually is good but i could never vote for it because he bugs me. annoying people don't deserve to win anything. they just deserve to come insanely close every single time to where they actually let their hopes get up only to get crushed at the last minute and then have to say something annoying like "it's great to come in 2nd, practically the same thing." that's how you keep annoying people in their place.

  13. Here’s a little more info on my logo: The logo is a stylized combo of Mt Fuji (lower left part), and some classic elements like fans and umbrella arranges to form the impression of the iconic sun on the flag of Japan. The main graphic is composed with 40 lines which represent the Olympic year 2020, 20+20=40. The arrangement of the lines spinning on a center axis also represents the second hand on a stopwatch, which speaks to sports and competition but also "this moment" and time in general. …and here’s some stamps I made yesterday focused on the time element.

  14. I think all the logos that made it this far are worthy and deserve a lot of credit, many that didn't make it too. It's a lot of work to enter these comps and put your work out to be judged by everyone here, but in the end hopeful it's fun and for me i love making the graphic bits.......i get excited about building something (like the tiny finials on my Tokyo banners )..and you do sort of get attached to your logo. Anyway....thanks to those who voted for me so far......it would be really fun if everybody on the site voted........and there were like 1000 votes but that never happens! p.s. i really though B would get a lot more votes.

  15. I was lucky enough to find some more detailed and i guess more realistic looking renders on this NY Times article and, this is just me but, I think it looks great. Unfortunately www.zaha-hadid.com is down for some reason so I can't go check for more there. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/05/arts/design/olympic-stadium-in-tokyo-is-dogged-by-controversy.html#
