  1. Well, Ric Birch and Marco Ballich (who partnered for Torino) have been signed to head Ceremonies. Of course, they will also partner with local talents but because of their experience, they have been chosen to produce 2016. @Danny, when you invite people to your home, do you do so in order to shame them and belittle them? No; you invite people to your house...normally...because you want their company and you want to show off your home and be a good and hospitable host in the process. This is the reason cities and countries vie for hosting the Olympic Games -- so that that one moment o

  3. Gangwon, your posts have not been the most troubling to me of those in this thread. I've never been to Canada and it does really surprise me that the only way you can legally see Toy Story 3 is to buy the movie. Even those circumstances, however, do not justify theft. I don't have an answer for you as to how else you might see the movie. I'm not Canadian. I still would not have a clear conscience if I did what you are doing. Although your choice may be understandable, that doesn't make it good. You say it's "making a mountain out if a molehill". Stream 10 movies -- that's $100 worth of theft

  4. Why so bitter ? Annecy was an untimely move from the CNOSF which make future French bids difficult.

  5. I really disagree. Pandora's box is open, but that doesn't mean stealing is permissible, much less defensible. It's because the box is open that this conversation is necessary. People still have the capacity to choose. People are not animals controlled solely by the instinct for self-preservation and personal pleasure. Technological development does not change right and wrong. Whether or not anyone's behavior changes, it is important to call out immoral, self-serving behavior. Once those voices die out (or are silenced), what's left of society? Granted, we're just talking about movies, which

  6. I am very far from perfect. I have many flaws and have screwed various things up on a grand scale. But I admit to it, apologize and ask forgiveness. I do not purposefully maintain and defend a habit I know to be wrong and harmful to others. The fact that people do this and feel "no remorse whatsoever" is shocking to me. We're talking about the basics of right and wrong here. There are so many individuals here who are totally at home with wrong and are eager to champion its cause that I feel like I've walked into the twilight zone. Incidentally, I have not done any of the particular things y

  7. I like that idea Baron, could definitely have worked. There was talk a few months before the ceremony of a big recreation of the Blitz. Mind you, there was talk of lots of things so who's to know whether it was considered or if it was just paper talk.

  8. .......I know....they didn't ask me either....go figure. Beijing’s scale, spectacular resources, and preparedness really did make 2012 too heavy a lift for anyone. Good thing NYC didn't win.

  9. But it has all the venue info - which is what most people are after. Ohhh floor plans of potential venues! I don't really get hard over transport plans...

  10. I do download as well - sometimes due to impatience, sometimes due to laziness, sometimes because I know I will hate the film but am somewhat curious. However 99% of my downloads are TV shows that are either not shown in Australia (Workaholics, various international Amazing Race seasons, Archer, Arctic Air, Bob's Burgers - I could go on) or shown at times I can't watch due to other commitments (MasterChef Australia, The Block - who can dedicate time every night of the week to a show? Seriously?) or as is the case here more often than not - they show the seasons out of order and sometimes sub

  11. I dream about Buenos Aires, going there and soaking in what is and has been and may be. I've also never been to Brazil, and sometimes I think some beautiful Brazilian things are probably being gentrified right now may be the things I would have love most about Rio, I will wonder how it was and what it is. But Brazil is interesting and Danny is also so interesting. How lucky we are that he has contributed so much here.
