  1. I promised there'd be Kylie, so here she is: I also promised we'd be in Melbourne, but you voted us straight to the destination - welcome to Brisbane proper, and to the legendary Gabba: But who will be so lucky (lucky, lucky, lucky) to win the comp? To find out, let's welcome another Aussie legend in her own right, live from her Melbourne mansion - the gladiolus queen herself, DAME EDNA! Edna: G'day possums! It's been wonderful to see all your designs, but only one can win - I don't have much time here, I have to perform the

But if that decision has to be made, it won't be made for at least until the spring. There was no way they could have gone ahead with the Olympics last year. But now, sports teams and leagues are managing to operate. Obviously the Olympics is an event like nothing else, but to say it's not possible.. way too early for that kind of declaration. You say they should cut their losses, but this isn't the best example of a

What are you saying then? We've got to find a logo? For the Brisbane Olympics? When? 2032...fair enough, how many to choose from? 5?! Well, only one way to solve this one... In the words of Sydney 2000, G'Day to the world! Welcome to the GOLD COAST! Don't panic, Peter Beattie has been safely stowed away in a VW camper, no risk of him infiltrating this

Massive thanks to everyone for your votes; and to all designers for making it a competition - and of course, to you guys for running a great competition. I'm mega excited to be joining the community again properly - and a nice way to do it! Looking forward to voting on the Brisbane designs next week! J

  6. I made this video about the 1936 US Olympic Basketball Team that was comprised of Universal Studios employees. It was the first Olympics that ever included basketball, and the US took home the gold! It's a little-known story, but has so many interesting facets across the board. It was relatively controversial just for the team to attend. I hope you enjoy the video!

  7. My goodness, man.. get off Pavlovian streak of yours when you get excited anytime you see the slightest hint of what could look like a boycott. You do realize that Trump is about to no longer be president, right? Short of one of the biggest political coups ever, Joe Biden is about to be POTUS. He doesn't need to take a stand on China to help get elected. The vote already happened. And what is a "pro boycott order" anyway? Do you think with all that's going on right now that either Trump (likely not going to be the president in 2022) or Biden is thinking about the Olympics at this

  10. Wow, how so special that would have been for you to be there in the Stadium that night! My elderly mother and I were just outside the Stadium Australia on little folding stools in the crowded Olympic Park Live Site. It was a great typical Aussie communal party atmosphere there and we all cheered big time when Juan Antonio proclaimed his Games verdict. Treasured memories. I was so lucky as well to be in the Stadium for the first OC Dress Rehearsal then in the actual OC on 15/9/2000. I hope of course that Queensland can bring the Games down under for the third time in 2032.

  11. Was nice to be in the stadium to hear it....Sydney 2000 was the highlight of my life, I carried the flame into Byron Bay, witnessed the opening and closing and every athletic session, and all up I saw 70 gold medals being won! My best fiend from Uni even hosted the 1 hour pre opening activities in the stadium. And when I was a little kid a few miles from the stadium I used to stage my own Olympic Games in the backyard1

  12. I love the concept, but I do not like the execution. Can the bold font (L, 2 and 8) at least be the same font since the As change? It seems like the L and the 8 are the same or similar, but the 2 is kind of a sports jersey kind of font. Is this the offical logo or some kind of promo to keep people excited since it's so far away--I hope? I'm not a fan of the A that's currently their icon on social media (some kind of Old English, brush font). Reminds me of the Oakland As.

  13. Actually, very innovating. It was about time we had a groundbreaking logo which would fit the current digital era, and I like how the way the "A" changes talks so much about LA's identity and culture without going over the top. I agree they could had used a better font for the rest of the letters, though. It was just very weird that they released it so early. It should had happened in 2021, but i guess they now have plenty of time to get to work in a brand which also matches perfectly with this and with the digital age. I hope there are nods to the Festive Federalism brand of LA'84.

Sure the north and west traditionally vote conservative, but it;s the city seats where the election is won, and given whats happened in Qld with the last few elections i would not call it at all. There is no mood for change. no one has the baseball bats out like we did for Bligh and especially Newman. Theres also next to no election advertising at the moment (there was a Frekington billboard around the corner from me for about a week and than it was pulled down) meaning a good chunk of voters are not even

Would give the World Athletics Championships & their athletes the space they need, 2022 is a very cramped summer. Although obviously it’d be best of all if they can find a host for 2026 & keep Brum - I like the Commonwealth Games, it’s very sad to see them in so much trouble

It is very possible - and I would argue likely - that we could have a Summer Olympics in 2021. The IOC has said cancellation is NOT an option. Postponement is. NBC will not have a major say in this and if they did, they would probably advocate to move it to next Summer, not to push it back by a month. And don't forget there's also the matter of the Paralympics as well

  23. Should the IOC and TOCOG determine that TOKYO 2020 will proceed as planned there will likely be unprecedented changes to venues, security, travel protocols, medical preparedness, etc.. A more informational “look of games” may be necessary to identify TOKYO 2020. A comprehensive plan may include a main logo that is more connected to these games parameters. I would like to submit a logo design to TOCOG for consideration. This design was originally created for Harbin, China in a past GB logo contest and was rejected by the GB community and thus it is available now. I can be available (

  26. QSAC Is too old for such a thing. They proposed to expand it to 90,000 for the 1992 bid, but how that was ever going to achieved was questionable (though I'm sure the bid team would have made a scale model on how they were going to achieve this). I'd expect a new stadium, somewhere near public transport and easy accessibility. It can be downsized post Olympics if need be, provided that no one wants to become a tenant. That's the Achilles heel of the bid. The main stadium is going to take a huge chunk of the budget, even if you get privatize the construction of the Athletes' Village a

I've always meant to enter this contest as it combines two of my favourite things; the Olympics and graphic design, but I always forget about it, and end up coming on around Christmas time and have missed the entry slot. So was overjoyed to see this competition extended when I looked yesterday. I've therefore come up with this entry for the Milan Cortina 2026 competition. I hopefully will get round to doing a Brisbane one before Monday but that might not happen! Mil

The fact China has been punishing Australia in the last months due to the later getting tired of their growing aggressive diplomacy by suspending imports from Australian products and forbidding their tourists to visit Australia (which in turn has been causing economic damage to the country) has only added more fuel to the fire. While I admire Australia for taking a stand against their ever growing influence in Oceania, its sad that still many countries prefer to remain silent and haven't grown a pair yet to make actual changing choices. To be fair, I guess it really doesn't scream Queensland (Especially South East Queensland) as much, but hey. The Maltese Cross (Which I guess isn't a Queensland thing) is inspired by the flag of the state, whilst the petal like shapes point inwards symbolizing the four corners of the world. It's also stylized in a sun to represent the state's nickname being the 'Sunshine state'.

  38. FIFA made the right decision for the first time in sooo long. As for UEFA’s bloc votes, it’s sad to see that even now individuals in FIFA don’t get to vote for themselves, & from a perspective of naked self-interest re 2030, the FA probably made the decision that’d piss off fewer voters, but the real insult is the reason given by UEFA - describing the Women’s World Cup as a ‘development tournament’. Whoever at UEFA came up with that one should be ashamed of themselves Congrats ANZ, hopefully you’ll show FIFA what 2022 could’ve been too if the brown envelopes hadn’t won.

China announced some Olympic surprises: Family with the 2,008th death will get free Opening Ceremony seats in Beijing!! The CCP also announced that deaths must stop at 2,022!
