With France getting 2030 and SLC getting 2034, the IOC made a slightly surprising move by all but giving Switzerland a clear lane to 2038. And I think this is a smart move. We saw how hamstrung the WOG's was for bids this time around up until the absolute end. You want to keep people interested and galvanized as long as possible. While this wasn't a double, it wasn't completely a triple. More like a 2.75. I can put my own personal WOG existence worries to bed. They'll be good for awhile now it seems. 2042 will get the Asian continent back on board and Sapporo can think long and hard about their slip ups until that time comes.

Following this week’s IOC reveal that six plus interested parties are in discussion with the Future Host Commission about hosting the 2030 or future Games, media are now starting to investigate who the “six” are. One of these is Switzerland.

82 years after the last time it was held in the country, 2030 could see a Swiss ski resort host the Winter Olympic Games. According to a new report from Watson, the International Olympic Committee is currently in discussions with authorities about whether Switzerland could host the event in seven years' time.

“At an event on March 23 in Lausanne, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) received a delegation of Swiss officials. At the meeting, IOC directors announced that they wanted to explore the possibility of bringing the Winter Olympic Games to Switzerland in 2030.”

“Not for want of trying, Switzerland has only held the Winter Olympics on two occasions, hosting the second (1928) and fifth (1948) iterations of the event in St. Moritz - recently voted one of the greatest places on earth by TIME. Further attempts to bring the games back to the country have failed, mainly because of cantonal referendums.”

“The last serious effort to bring the games to Switzerland was a strongly supported bid by Canton Valais in 2006. Sadly, the Valaisanner’s bid lost in heartbreaking fashion to Turin, Italy in the final vote, with IOC president Juan Antonio Samaranch famously declaring “Torino instead of Sion.””

“The alpine nation's bid for 2030 has been strongly supported by international companies in Switzerland and the skiing and athletics associations. They argue that the recent wave of sporting success from Swiss winter athletes should be rewarded by hosting the games.”

“Watson noted that the alpine nation’s chances of winning the nomination are good, with only Sweden thought to be seriously pushing to be host in 2030. Out of the two other bids announced, Salt Lake City is likely to switch to bidding for 2034 because of the event's proximity to the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, while the bid from Sapporo in Japan has largely been withdrawn due to a corruption scandal.“

Lviv 2038 WOGs as part of the rebuild/revitalization effort courtesy of seized Russian assets? Pie in the sky or even a small possibility?

Back when I was talking up Lviv and Ukraine I never, ever in my most frightening nightmares thought it would become what it has. This will eventually all pass, and I am increasingly confident Ukraine is going to pull off the surprise win here (nothing for sure but they are doing a hell of a job trading minimal ground gains for massive amounts of Russian blood. Once a few more NATO toys arrive I expect/hope the tide to truly shift). Assuming Ukraine wins.......whether its by early next year or even five years' time, a country rebuild the likes we have never seen before will be undertaken, and countries are already prepping for that day. Cities will be completely re-invented courtesy of Russian reparations from seized assets under the watchful eye of city planners to make sure grifting is at a minimum/completely avoided. A revitalization plan the likes we have never seen before will be undertaken once Ukraine mops the last Russian from its land.

So what makes Lviv possibly work? You wanna talk about a games that could absolutely captivate the world and bring everyone together, look no further. This will truly be for the people of Ukraine and a healing moment to show they have overcome the Russo-Fascists. And on the dime of seized Russian assets? Have at it! Im sure the pre/post ceremony would be the most must see TV thing we have ever seen. I want the poetic justice of Russia to pay for this whole thing with all the seized money, that would just be too wonderful

Granted, I emphasize this project would be furthest on the backburner to getting the absolute baseline standards up and running again........all necessary infrastructure, but if the undertaking parallels the European post WWII rebuild, it actually is feasible. In the Ukraine revitalization, there will need to be something for the people too, and if this can somehow be molded into that, it would just be too cool to me.
