Not sure if this is new (I’ve seen a few posts on socials about LA releasing their full schedule today), but sound like starting the games off literally running:

So, it seems they will have to create a synthetic course for Eventing (3-day X-country) at Santa Anita for 2028. Unlike Paris where the EVenting was held on the grounds of Versailles or even in London 2012 at the Royal Greenwich Observatory and Maritime College greens, everything will be done at Santa Anita race track. Santa Anita will be great for the Dressage and Jumping portions because, like in 1984, they will just stake out a portion of the viewing stands, and lay over a 3-sided stadia. But for eventing, it seems they are forgoing hills and gulleys and various elevations as they will just layout an artificial track around the grounds & parking lots and probably have the riders do a 2x or a 2.5 loop over the course.

Plus, it will be very seated-audience-focused. Seems like there are 4 ticket categories for Eventing -- so not allowing the crowds to roam freely at will and they will be corraled into 4 areas of varying viewing primacy. They're not even going into the adjoining Santa Anita Golf Course for more terrain variety. And it seems there will be a test event for 2027.
Perhaps the biggest Summer Olympic team sport already not scheduled before the Opening Ceremony seems to become one of them with soccer, field hockey, rugby sevens, water polo, team handball, cricket, and soccer all starting two days before the OC on July 12. The canoe slalom competition in Oklahoma City is expected to start in the morning of July 14, hours before the opening ceremony later that day, about 1931 kilometres away. Surprised that field hockey is also now part of this. Unclear now whether the men or women will kick things off there but three games each will be played July 12-13 with no game starting earlier than 12pm PDT. The bronze medal games will be played on July 28 and 29, and gold-medal games will occur on July 29 and 30 that will close the Games on exactly July 30. Also intended to make the experience easier for the basketball players, teams, broadcasters, and fans:

Why are they adding ridiculous sports (except Lacrosse, I want to see that) to the '28 programme, but none of which excite me -- least of all the return of Weightlifting (yawn), Baseball/softball (yawn-yawn)? I don't give a FF to the other new and returning sports, most of all Boxing!! Hate that. I hope LA28 losses $$ on those IDIOTIC new sports they're adding!!
FIFA pushing to have more women’s than men’s teams in LA

Women’s soccer at 2028 LA Olympics

In a further boost for women’s soccer, Infantino detailed FIFA’s plan to have more women’s teams than men’s playing at the next Olympics.

There were just 12 teams in the women’s tournament at the 2024 Paris Olympics and 16 in the men’s tournament.

Though the International Olympic Committee strongly supports gender equality at the games, adding four more women’s teams — and about 70 extra players, plus team officials — would push the limit of agreed athlete quotas for organizers in Los Angeles.

Infantino said on Thursday that FIFA’s new proposal is to flip the numbers to have 16 women’s teams and 12 in the men’s tournaments.

The final decision is for the IOC, which has an executive board meeting next Wednesday.

Sorry, non-USA friends. Not meaning to brag . . . but I hope other than the oil-rich sultanates which also do this, the US athletes are also finally getting a long-deserved windfall (that at least isn't going to Twamp/MAGA reserves). This is a pretty big donation -- and so USOPC won't have to depend too much on any surplus that LA28 and SLC'34 will share with them.
While luckily, no projected venues for use in LA28 have been burned or damaged by the fires, will the larger misfortune curtail Wasserman's ridiculous 35-sport programme? I hope so.

And, of course, all SoCal also has to be ready for any major earthquakes. That might cause some of the older venues to be put at risk. (I hope UCLA too comes through the fires unscathed.) And who was the idiot here who was saying that Oh, you can't factor in natural events like earthquakes and fires in selecting your Olympic host cities. It is . . . inhuman, unfair -- and some other sort of phoney garbage like that! HELLO, Mr. Phoney-Heart!! Look what's happened to the next Summer Olympic host city!! 🤪

I hope all of LA County and surrounding can get their water -- and fire hydrant system upgraded in time for 2028 . . . altho that might be a bit of a stretch.

I just looked at the list of 2028 venues on Wikipedia. There aren't any listed for Boxing & Weightlifting. Haven't heard any official announcements from the IOC but good riddance awful sports.

Next I'd remove would be Judo, Wrestling and Taekwondo. Enough of those combat sports!!

So, as it stands, without the addition of other sports, 2028 will feature 28 sports.

As I suspected, volleyball legend Karch Kiraly who's coached the US women's team the last 12 years, has now been moved to the US men's team -- to guide his former team to hopefully a repeat gold medal performance in LA for 2028 -- just as he did when he was a player for the US men and his team won the first of its two gold medals (at Long Beach) in 1984. And then, when Beach V-ball was added to the roster in Atlanta, KK also won the first men's gold there! Such a remarkable career (in the sport I love)!!

Karch Kiraly to Coach U.S. Men’s National Team - USA Volleyball

I have also nominated him to be a final 2028 Cauldron Lighter alongside Joan Benoit Samuelson -- due to his 3 gold medals / three LA Games.

(I believe he was an assistant US men's coach when they also won the gold in Beijing in 2008; and he guided the US women, under his tutelege, to a World Championship, 3 VNL golds, one Oly bronze (2016); their first Oly gold (Tokyo 2020); and their 2nd/3rd(?) silver in Paris'24.)

So, together on the Final Sunday? -- and, of course, it will mean simultaneous Medals ceremony at Closing -- which would be TERRIFIC in my book!

And this would also mean, just blocking off city streets JUST ONCE!! Now, why didn't anybody think of that before??

I also think -- and I will propose it to them -- it should be the FIRST marathons run to 20mi and 28 meters!! In view of global warming, it should no longer be the full 26.2 mi. And organizers forget that the original runner - Pheidippedes died running that distance! Plus the 26.2mi distance was ARBITRARILY set at the London Games of 1908 -- nothing to do with the real distance P actually ran in Greece.

Apparently, World Rowing, in principle, has accepted the shorter 1,500 Rowing course (used in the 1932 Games) in Long Bitch over the much farther Lake Ferris in Riverside County. The LB course is, I believe, also narrower.
