Even if I at first felt as if I wouldn't create this topic this time around, it is still an Olympic tradition, even if the Olympic ideals are going more and more down the dumper. So here they are, our verdicts on the Beijing 2022 Winter Games. I will subsequently post my verdict.

Okay, let's get this thing started with this new version alright...

(Mind you, I haven't got to close with completing the Tokyo version--and will get back to that soon)

NBC has "virtually sold out" all of its Beijing 2022 advertising space slots since September. Requests for participation coming at a case-by-case basis now being evaluated:

Like with Tokyo and Pyeongchang before this, expect to see some of your favorite Olympics events on your TV, computer, tablet, and smartphone will start late in the evening in Canada and in the USA like in the men's and women's hockey and curling gold medal finals and the figure skating final rounds. Plus, NBC really wanted the "unprecedented" Super Bowl-Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics scheduling overlap and pairing after swapping with CBS to maximize its advertising revenue package with the former coming days after Beijing's start and being in the thick of the Winter Olympics instead of avoiding each other this time:

NBC Bay Area hosted a 100-day countdown mark community event in San Francisco with NBC Bay Area anchor Janet Wang emceeing at a rink near the city hall:

It´s really early at the paras, but one country needs to be aknowlwged for their insane jump in the Beijing winter: The hosts, China. In a single day, they not only bested their all time total medal count, they octoplied it. A print from wikipedia with their historic results:

	And as of now, they already added more to the count. It´s a GIANT leap from one games from the other, something really remarkable...but, unfortunaly, suspicions could arise from that. For comparisons, Russia winter paralympic exploits, with special eye in 2014;

However, i actually hope the Chinese exploits in their home turf are legit, and with no proof for the contrary at the moment, nobody can truly deny them their newfound winter paralympic glory, an cristalization of their goal hosting this games: Becoming a Official Winter Sports Nation. All i can say it´s a jump so high it can cause suspicions. It´s kind of a archeviment by itself, really. But now, i give it to you.

Here's the clip on the supposedly "Lightring of the Heritage Flame" (as the Paras call them at the Stoke-Mandeville location.

However, the two Lighters come into the picture already with the FLAME lit!?!? So, where and how were the original flames lit? In the cafeteria? In the Kitchen? In the outhouse? By a lighter? By a match? By a gas stove maybe using Russian natural gas? Tell all, IPC!!

With every edition of the Games, the Paras keep changing their "Lighting" method. This time, it's wonkier than ever and seems MORE FAKE than before. Also, they have TWO lighters come out, but only ONE "re-lights" the cauldron first -- with the second one, whose torch is ALREADY LIT, just standing by there. Huh? even if #2's "re-lighting: is NOT shown -- what action does it really convey? Where is Merlin when you need him??

And then they flew this flame from the UK to Beijing --about 5,080 air miles? How much did that cost? The jet fuel on that flight (maybe $7,500 R/T) cost more than this "Lighting ceremony"? So, where the Beijing committee saved money by NOT having a new monstrous cauldron per se, the home IPC stages this crazy charade, I imagine, "flies" this fake flame to Beijing at what cost? The whole pseudo-pageantry really doesn't make sense.

Not meaning to be too restrictive, but I guess that's why they will never integrate with the able-bodied Olympics if this is what they call a LIghting of the Flame.

The IPC should just stop aping the IOC -- and if they are to keep this Flame-Lighting thing -- please do it right and sensibly.

Beijing 2022 today launched an international competition for the designs of the mascots for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

As a part of the competition, people from around the world are invited to submit original designs for the emblematic ambassadors.

Designers can submit their proposals from 20 to 31 October 2018, either in person or via mail. The designs should embody the Olympic and Paralympic values, reflect Chinese culture and affirm the vision of the 2022 Games.

The launch of the competition fell on a fitting date, with 8 August marking a decade since the opening of the Olympic Games in 2008. In addition to the mascot design launch, the 10-year anniversary included sports demonstrations and various exhibitions, providing a setting to celebrate the legacies of Beijing 2008 while looking ahead to Beijing 2022.

Designing mascots will take a youthful turn in September, when elementary and secondary school students across China will have the chance to create their own mascots for the Games in art classes as a part of Beijing 2022’s Olympic Education Programme.

The winner is expected to be announced in the second half of 2019.

The first dynamic core graphic in Olympic history

The design inspiration for the core graphics of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games comes from the traditional Chinese idea of "Dao Law, Nature and Man in One". With the help of scientific and technological means and computer-generated technology, the mountain and the Great Wall in the Beijing-Zhanghai region , And the symbolic culture of "Qianlijiangshantu" green landscape, dynamic and powerful lines, the charm of Chinese calligraphy, athletes' passion for competition, slides and cutting-edge technology on the field, forming a winter scenery with regional characteristics and Chinese charm , Presenting the concept of the harmonious coexistence of man and nature in the new era, and the construction of a community of human destiny.

The core graphics can be combined with the color system to form different design solutions, which are widely used in various areas of competition venues and non-competition venues, as well as multiple business areas such as uniforms, licensed products, transportation, and urban landscapes.

In more ways than one, and riding on a world-wide wave of emotion and guts, Ukraine athletes top the medal table at the 2022 Paralympics in Beijing.

Their are many countries very upset at China. India is one that is taking a stand to China. Many countries in Europe are taking steps to deal with China, and if Trump is reelected he might boycott the games and force others countries to do the same. Take heed IOC.

Well, I thought about it before, but figured the boards just ain’t what they used to be. But, considering inquiries, maybe it’s better late than never:

Congrats over the channel. I've only seen the last three ends, but it must have been a wild shoot-out judging by how many scoreless ends there were. Btw, it's a shame there's no Hot Bods thread for these games - one of those Scots is right up my alley.

Does anyone have any ideas what will happen to the Yanqing alpine skiing center?. For the 2018 games, the alpine skiing venue (Jeongseon) is not a functioning ski resort and there are plans for the forest there to restored. When China opens up without restrictions will they get more world cup events in those same venues in the coming years?.

We're past the midway point now, but what is your midway verdict?

Like my parents said: sterile. And I have to agree. Even if covid was out of the way I'm wondering how lively the atmosphere would be. Very much missing the fan atmosphere, the cultural vignettes during the CBC broadcast, athletes goofing off and winning the crowd, etc. The stuff that makes the games a truly joyous and talked about event. Even domestically here in Calgary, you ask people "are you watching the Olympics?" and most reply with a no. Sad times. Take your vaccines and may this covid BS disappear for 2024, and hope that a war doesn't erupt in the coming days.

This is just a hypothetical at this stage. We’s surely all hope it doesn’t happen. But it sure is ominous. But if it does, what would it mean for the games - apart from the fact of giving us far bigger things to worry about.

Do the games get called off?

Is Russia expelled for breaking the Olympic truce?

Do the contentious teams get separated?

I mean, at the very least it would make the village very tense. There could be altercations between athletes. But how far materially would the games be impacted?

As if Beijing was not enough of a disaster, but this might be another variable in an equation that already has a lot of problems. I know we were hoping and anticipating this would be done and dusted by the Tokyo Olympics. In turn, its a worse problem for Japan than its ever been. COVID clusters seem to be like an amoeba with their infliction rate, and I think more than a few would see it as poetic justice for something for Beijing to deal with early next year. In any other country, I think the risk of a fanless Olympics would be quite high, but not China. They will insist on putting on a good face. It could very well be a domestic fans only affair though.
