Regardless of the referendum I doubt Washington will rush to accept a statehood vote. What benefit is it to the US to accept PR as a state. What is next? Guam becomes the 52nd state? American Samoa?

The USOC should be sticking to their guns and telling the IOC to go spend some of their own massive revenue in promoting the movement better so as to draw bigger sponsorship from secondary markets.
As for hosting the Games - as long as South America and Canada get the Games who cares? You will get your primetime sports. You will in 2016 either way. A Reno or Denver Winter Games in 2022 will probably end with a debt anyway. You'd be better off financially assisting Toronto/Quebec City/Calgary under the table than coughing up for a home country Games.
This deal will not guarantee a US Games anytime soon. Or worse - it may get the US the next Games it bids for over a better candidate.

CNN will carry the announcement - there wont be the hour long special like they do for the host announcement - however the past few bid cycles they have had the press conference featuring the shortlist announcement.
There will be no major Australian reportage as the candidate phase isn't really newsworthy. There is no real angle for the Aussie media apart from maybe "Tokyo is giving it a go". Unless Doha gets highest marks in which there will be a muted outcry.

I will always have time for Baron - however when he turns vicious it can be really full on.
In this instance both parties went stupidly overboard - however Drew didn't need to take it off forum and go after him on Amazon. That was very, very poor form and absolutely unnecesary.
I'll defend his right to his opinion though - as I do everyone else. If he comes back (I am sure he will) I just hope he doesn't take every bit of bait waved at him to fly off the handle.
And yes krow - I am a fan boy of Baron. And of you, Rol, CAF, Lee, Michelle etc etc. Us old timers need to have each others back!
