In Topic: Will B&D support or backstab Istanbul to improve their 2024 chances?

They don't need to endorse or backstab Istanbul or anyone. Don't you see? They got cut. That basically means they are irrelevant. The Turks have been building this bid for 20 years. Doha and Baku are new kids on the block (although twice on the chopping block). They don't have the clout. If D&B want Olympic Games, then put their efforts to the kind of cities that they are - YOG category. Otherwise, let the big boys play on the beach, and let the babies go back to the sandbox.

Africa only if Cape Town bids. But unless Winter 2022 goes to Reno/Tahoe or Denver or the USOC and IOC have a major setback, it would be very difficult to ignore a strong bid from North America for so long.

I'd even say if Istanbul 2020, then USA 2024.

GET OVER IT! Doha has been cut. It wasn't a good enough candidate. Doha? Nada!
The IOC Executive Committee has set this up for Istanbul to win and Tokyo to act as an insurance policy.
The winner will be determined by a few things that happen in the coming months. Over the next year, the bid that does the most tweaks to refine their bid will win points with the IOC. And then after that, the bid that tells the most compelling story will win. If Istanbul address the IOC's concerns, they will win, because they have the story. If they don't meet enough of the IOC's needs, say hello to Tokyo 2020.

Yep, I calls em as I sees em.
And I see two tangos in Argentina that either go something like...
Total IOC split about...
Istanbul 45%
Madrid 30%
Tokyo 25%
and
Istanbul wins!
or
Total IOC split about...
Tokyo 45%
Madrid 30%
Istanbul 25%
and
Tokyo wins!
Essentially an Istanbul vs. Tokyo race with Madrid holding onto a solid chunk of supporters in the middle and a larger chunk of swing votes that either rise like the sun or sail down the Bosphorus. But no chance of a Madrid win.
