Back to topic: I don't see Austria bidding for the next wogs. After the youth olympics in Ibk, the ÖOC declared they are not interested in bidding for "real" olympics right now. Of course there are a handful cities that are able to host wog. But I don't think one of them will try to host the games. Innsbruck is the first and until August only 3-time-host of olympics. So why should they get the games again so early? The Salzburg 2014 bid was a financial disaster and after losing in 2007 they said, they won't bid anymore. Graz just got the rights to host the 2017 special olympics together with Schladming. Salzburg hosted those games in 1993 and a few years later they were serious bidders for wog. That's why Graz is my personal favourite for the next Austrian olympics. And Graz will build a new ice rink for this event. Klagenfurt is another possibility. There is a wonderful modern football arena, and the most traditional Austrian hockey club, the KAC, could need a new arena too. But Carinthia is more or less the 'Greece of Austria' with a dubious far-right government...^^
Linz and Vienna are too far away from the mountains and Kitzbühel bidded for 2006 and 2010 but wasn't put forward from the ÖOC. But if St. Moritz is able to host the olympics, Kitzbühel would be that too.

In Topic: No Davos-St. Moritz 2022 bid?
04 April 2012 - 07:48 PM
The St. Moritz/Davos homepage is online now (unfortunately only in German, Italian and Romansh): http://www.gr2022.ch/de/home
Probably interesting informations that I found there:
The decision by the sport parliament if the put forward the bid is expected on May 24 and in November there will be the referendum in Graubünden. And if the bid passes those decisions the Swiss Federal Council will decide if they support the bid probably in February 2013.
According to the homepage the exact venues aren't sure at the moment but Davos should host the events in icehockey, speed skating, curling, cross-country, snowboard and freestyle skiing, while St. Moritz should host alpine skiing, bobsleigh+luge+skeleton, figure skating, short track, ski jumping and nordic combined. In Topic: Should a future Munich bid drop Gramisch?
08 March 2012 - 12:51 PM
The problem with 2 countries co-hosting the games probably isn't the border (which isn't really existing anymore in Europe) but the fact that there would be 2 pre-qualified teams in ice hockey, curling...
And there are many other points that make an Austrian-German co-bid like that impossible. On the one hand Germany and the DOSB probably doesn't want to share the games (at all if the host city is Salzburg), on the other hand Salzburg won't bid as long as Heinz Schaden is the mayor of Salzburg. He already had big problems after bidding and losing twice (at all because of the financial disaster after their 2014 bid).
So that idea only was a hypothetical one

As I suggested it in the other Munich thread, I think the bid would be more compact. The last world cup event in Berchtesgaden was in 2000 for women and in 1986 for men and probably the slopes and the arena have to be adapted and expanded but nevertheless, I would prefer Berchtesgaden to Garmisch.
I even would drop Munich and use Salzburg for the ice events (all venues would be less than 30 minutes from the Red Bull Arena which could be used for the ceremonies) and it would be the most compact bid since... I don't know since when...
Of course I know that is unrealistic^^
