Back on topic, I am now leaning toward all the applicant cities making candidate status.
Understand, I am NOT saying all the cities are ready for the show. But at the same time, I cannot honestly think of a concrete reason to disqualify the two bubble cities, Baku and Doha. Personally, I think it's too soon for Baku and Doha would stink to high heaven if they won, especially after the WC fiasco. Plus, October?
The real interesting case is Istanbul. I cannot help but wonder if Rogge may have tipped the IOC's hand just a bit by reminding Istanbul it cannot do both. I do not think Rogge would politic the IOC the way JAS did for his preferences, but perhaps, just perhaps, the IOC would honestly prefer going to Turkey for the first time than return trips to either Spain or Japan.
I am not sure of anything, but am considering everything.

Oy, 3:05 AM in New York.
Eh, I've done worse.
Get ready, London. With every step of a runner, your moment is coming closer and closer. No pressure, of course.
In Topic: A Minneapolis 2024/2008 bid?

IF... very big if... IF Minneapolis/St. Paul were ever to try for an Olympics, they sorely need credibility first. Start small, maybe national championships for Olympic sporting events. If word of mouth is good and the populace recepetive, try for a world championship. Think of this as a checklist, raising the profile of the city, spreading word of mouth and getting much needed experience at hosting big events.
Do I think Minneapolis/St. Paul COULD host an Olympics? I'd love to see it, but not for a LONG time, probably not even in my lifespan. Sorry, but that is just how it breaks.

2022 or 2026, yes. Thomas Bach has said, though, that there is no new development regarding a German Olympic bid. He said that Germany would only bid if the basic conditions are right and if the bid stood a realistic chance.
Bach and his stance are starting to really concern me. I hate to say it, but I wonder if his ambition will cost Munich an Olympics. Could he be intentionally trying to discourage Munich from mounting a bid for 2022 just to improve his chances of replacing Rogge as IOC President?
Let's call a spade a spade here - even those who would prefer seeing the Games elsewhere would admit if they were to bid, Munich has the inside track for 2022. So, if the support is there and it seems like it is more likely than not to happen, it's stupid not to bid. Ask Cape Town or Durban if they feel foolish not trying for 2020 now, if you need an example there.
I really hope the German Olympic Committee really gives this a lot of thought and will not let politics rule their decision.

Is it wrong that I am basically insisting on strict neutrality on the race so far?
I will admit to having some preferences on the race, but quite honestly, even with the big support Tokyo is getting, I just do not see a clear favorite. At least, not yet. This is truly a race where cities you'd think would be laughed out of the IOC meetings might stay in just to keep the race interesting. Yes, I think even Baku has a chance of being short-listed. I have yet to hear a definate reason to disallow the city, as yet.
I think until I see the short list, I will hold my tongue and my vote. I'm interested, but not yet ready to commit.
