No...Very much a righty but within the bounds of decency. I believe in personal choice, standing on your own two feet, who you are not what you are, an even lower tax rate for everyone, a smaller government (and that means pruning local government as well), pay for what you use, discourage reliance on benefits, sell down assets to 51% with NEW ZEALAND based investors first preference in shareholding. And I know this sounds horrible, the best performing schools get the best funding - incouraging others to catch up. The best and brightest singled out and monitored (and that does not include sports). I've been a National Party supporter since even before I could vote. The only time I wavered was in 2005 giving my then local National MP my seat vote but ACT my party vote simpley because Don Brash was/is a racist. As for the 1984-90 lot, that was shear hypocracy.

Yea but what you've just said was Roger Douglas/Ruth Richardson manifesto. I mean thats your personal politics and thats cool, I would never try to persuade you otherwise. However I just struggle with people who repudiate the reforms of the 80's/90's and yet support all for which they stood for. It's just I don't think I understand political tribalism.

YES I DO!!! Labour went about it the wrong way and even Roger Douglas admitted that they would be hated forever in the end. You don't just dump 250 000 workers onto the dole in a year then remove all retraining apparatus leaving a nation that is so underskilled thus allowing Indian migrants to take over industry - you were only a baby at the time , you didn't have to feel the effects of it.

Every time I run into any cabinet minister fron Lange's mob, I deliberatly ruin the rest of their day - infront of their families if need be.

No one's benefitted from the 1980s reforms (not even the so called 'elite' you mentioned)...If it were true, we'd be equal to Australia in standard of living, which we were pre-1984. All governments since 1996 have failed to embrace consensus intill three years ago. MMP is what that is suppose to be. The 1999-08 government failed to really emphisise SAVE MONEY during the boom era untill it was already too late. At least the current National lead government is willing to listen. Thankfully they are letting us buy into assets that we should've been allowed to partake in twenty years ago. If you want a secure retirement, you will follow their lead...Invest in your country.

Advice that arrogant faced David Cunliff should think about when David Shearer takes over the Reds next week.

 Wow was that raw emotion or what?...

Ok fair enough and I'd agree with some of what you are saying but I don't understand that if you're opposed to neo-liberal or new right economics then why do you support National? They don't stand for anything you just said. Yes, I have a lot of criticism of Rogernomics and they way it was implemented but just remember the "retraining apparatus" werent removed under Labour, it was Ruth Richardson and National which decimated the social services of with country. The fact of the matter is Labour is not same party it was in the 80's but National have become the defacto guardians of Rogernomics.

I mean I tend to vote Labour but you sound like more of a lefty then me.

As for the battle of the 'Davids' to lead Labour...Well I'm old enough to remember what happened to New Zealand the last time Labour governed with a leader called David!!! THAT'S where all of NZs social problems today came from.

You believe all of NZ's social problems stem from rogernomics yet support the very party who represents those who benefited most from the 80's reforms? Go figure.

I voted green so I was stoked with the result of 10.6% of the party vote and 13 Green MPs.

I had unplugged from the election campaign in terms of the major parties. I've never been a big fan of John Key and the National party, I don't rate him as a leader. While I'm not opposed to asset sales, if Nationals only ideas right now are to sell power companies and use the money to pay for schools and motorways then heaven help us. This is the same thing we have been doing for the past 25 years. I liked Labours policies around the economy, they were bold and they were inline with exactly what the World Bank and the IMF (hardy left leaning instutions) have been telling us for years about the huge unballances in our tax system, lack of sovereign savings, pension reform and low productive export sector. It took balls for them to put those forward and they won my respect but not vote becasue they are not ready to govern. However I'm excited to see that David Shearer has put his hand up for the Labour leadership, this man has huge potential.

Just watched the ceremony a second time. I think having the little guy in Canterbury colours and Jonah Lomu's line "Do it for Christchurch my friend" were really lovely touches. Plus the Pacifika version of the 'World In Union' was brilliant. I mean we could have had a bog standard soprano a la Hayley Westenra belt it out and it would have been magnificent in it's own right (final match perhaps) but the polynesian choir was a nice regional touch.

5 Stars!
