Anyone who pays anywhere near that price needs their head testing. What a joke.

just watched the whole semi final, here are my thoughts.
  • The host were actually quite good - not the shouting i as expecting, although they were very clinical and serious
  • Love the postcards - very professional
  • Like the idea of the green room at the back - much more engaging
  • Interval act i thought was superb - very cultural - music was great
  • Camera work could have been better
  • Graphics and stage look great - very professional
  • Lacked atmosphere from previous editions, the audience didn't seem as enthused as past editions
  • Switzerland, Finland and Latvia should have qualified instead of Cyprus, Russia and Moldova
Overall a very professional staging but lacked the fun and atmosphere of past contests. Hopefully this will change as the week goes on. Wel done Baku

I thought the hosts were awful - totally plastic, devoid of any personality. I agree that the postcards looked very professional but they didn't interest me greatly. Perhaps that is more to do with the fact that I don't care much for Azerbaijan as a country. I liked the green room area and stage but it was always going to be hard to top Germany last year. Atmosphere and camera work were both poor. They completely messed up the intro to the Latvian performance with some very shoddy camera work in particular. It also said it all when the whole front line of the audience looked totally miserable. The front row should be reserved for Eurovision fans. We want to see happy people, not miserable people. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see the interval act as the BBC did interviews whilst it was on. The only thing I could tell was that it was very loud. I agree that Latvia and Finland should have gone through, but in place of Russia and Ireland. I can't believe nobody has mentioned how off key Jedward were. Their mics were on so low and had loads of backing and yet you could still tell they sounded awful.

I couldn't join the live chat but I did watch the semifinal, and I have to say that in my opinion the outcome could have been better
Russia was shameful. The ESC has a very bad reputation in Spain and I always try to defend it, but with acts like this qualifying it's really difficult... If they wanted a "striking" act in the final, Austria was much better. Then, I found Moldova's performance a bit ridiculous. I think there were other countries that deserved it more than them, and more or less the same for Ireland. On the other hand, Switzerland should have qualified, and probably Finland too, and even Latvia.

PS: Please someone tell the guy with the Russian flag not to wave it that much! There were performances like Cyprus that were impossible to watch! :P

I agree with that summary totally.

Yes, but we all know that not always the best song won in ESC history.

True, but the song is always fairly good at least.

I was hoping someone would throw a live electrical cable into that waterfall during Jedward's performance. I may well have even voted for them then.
