Coco Lee and Sun Nan in town Thursday at the Temple of Heaven to film the final scenes for the music video of the Beijing Olympic song "Forever Friends."

"This is a multinational family arts group; we come from different cultural backgrounds and have become a close-knit family because of the Olympics. We are a true reflection of "Forever Friends," said producer Kong Xiangdong.

Two-time Grammy Award-winning composer Giorgio Moroder headed the song's music composition. Moroder has experience in producing Olympic hits -- he composed the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic theme song "Reach Out" and the Seoul 1988 Olympic theme song "Hand in Hand."

German lyricist Michael Kunze, whose achievements include successfully translating the hit musicals "Cats" and "Phantom of the Opera" into German, penned the English lyrics to "Forever Friends."

The three members of the creative team for the song represent a multi-ethnic, boundary-free world. They truly represent the theme of "Forever Friends."

Following the debut performance of "Forever Friends" during the one-year countdown celebration for the Beijing Olympic Games last August, Moroder and Kong decided to do a new recording of the song.

That's when singers Sun Nan and Coco Lee got involved. In addition, CCTV host, Yang Dongsheng, was invited to join the production team. Coco Lee and Sun Nan are both honored to perform "Forever Friends" and hope to pass the song's message along to the rest of the world.

The "Forever Friends" music video is scheduled for release before the year is over. In addition, a Chinese version of the song is in the works now and will be ready for release early next year.

Beijing are going way way overboard with their song contests. I guess it's an extra way to get people involved in the Olympics- but to have so many winners each year is just over the top.
Nagano is probably the last host to have so many different themesongs - but even they settled on a couple of key theme songs. I believe they had *Share* by Anri, and *Dream* by Masashi Sada (which was used prominently in one of the IOC's lead up doco series to the Games.
Will Beijing have one official theme song at the end of this, and will it be cheesy poof free? lol.
The trend has been to move away from official songs. I think the last real successful one was the uber radio friendly *Reach* by Gloria Estefan, which is still a big favourite of mine.
Sydney had some great tunes, but they were very much *theme of the ceremony* kind of tracks.
I think having a theme piece of music (orchestralised) is far more valuable.

BOCOG do have soooo many Olympic songs for the theme song selection.
And each of these songs has a music video...Ohh~
How expensive!

About "Reach",it's really a great olympic theme song in olympic history. And Gloria Estefan is a legend as well.
"Under the Southern Sky" and "The flame" are also has a great rhythms and song lyrics.

BEIJING (Reuters) - Celine Dion will play her first concert in China in April and has submitted an entry for the Beijing Olympics theme song competition, Games organizers said on Wednesday.

The 39-year-old multiple Grammy Award winner has scheduled a stop on her worldwide tour at the newly renovated Workers' Stadium in the Chinese capital on April 13, which will be part of Beijing's official celebration of the Games.

"Her team has submitted the song to our Theme Song Selection Committee," said Kan Ke, deputy director of Culture and Ceremony Department of Beijing Organizing Committee for Olympic Games.

"We are delighted to have Celine, who has sung a widely praised song for a previous Olympics, involved."

Dion sang the theme song "The Power of the Dream" at the opening ceremony of 1996 Olympics in Atlanta but is best known for a song from the movie Titanic, "My Heart Will Go On," which was a huge hit in Asia.

The 64,000-seater Workers' Stadium will host soccer matches at the Beijing Games.

So far, more than 30 artists from China and abroad have submitted their works for the theme song but Kan said he was expecting more entrants.

"What the theme song will be ... will remain secrets until August 8, when the Games open," said Kan.

Oh no... I dont like this stupid Olympic Theme Song. They were all extreme kitschy until now. I would prefer a really autentic chinese instrumental or electonical score / song. Nobody needs those silly "honey-sweet" songs. I am very happy that Athens didnt had one and rejected a George Michael request to sing a theme.

I allready can hear it... starts with a typical chinese sound and ends with some children choir with a C. Dion singing herself in ecstasy!

But lets wait, maybe i am wrong!

<vomits>
Why do the Olympics need cheesefest songs that not even the athletes want anything to do with? Revenue, that's why. There will always be people with crap tastes in music who will eat up thie "let's hold hands and sing kumbaya" nonsense.

I agree that almost all the olympic theme songs are really crap. Just look at how they use words like "together", "hands", "we", "one" over and over... It looks like the same lyrics rearrenged in a different melody.

I kinda liked Athens' torch relay theme "Pass The Flame", mostly because of the videoclip, despite all the cliches in the lyrics. Athens' musical choices were the best. It's a shame there isn't an "Music from the Opening Ceremony" CD :(
