After Gamesbids premiered it here, what do you think of Doha's plan?

On first look, two major problems:

- dates - Games in October wouldn't match the IOC guidelines and although Doha gives some solid arguments (previous Games held then), I don't think it's clever to contradict the IOC

- accomodation - too few hotel rooms in the higher categories, many planned, but I don't think expanding hotel accomodation by more than 300% will look feasible to the evaluation panel even for a booming destination like Doha

Accomodation figures are fine for a city like Doha. But i still think it may be lacking considerable numbers. The Games will grow following Beijing and London and there will be big expectations of the 2016. Im not sure if Doha has the capacity because it is starting from a low population base.

I like how central the village is and the considerable transport works and budget. Is it just me or did the book make no reference to environmental factors at all?

additional 24,000 rooms in the 3-5 star category...i'd like to see the IOC response, considering there are 6,500 rooms currently in the 3-5 star category.

Should have pushed up the cruise ship capacity to 12,000 rooms.

6,500 rooms + 24,000 rooms (feasiblity 0.5/0.6/0.7) + media village 18,000 (feasibility 0.8/0.9) + 6,000 cruise ship rooms (feasibility 0.8/0.9) = >40,000

I think they'll be safe, considering accommodation has a weight of 5.

I like the way they have planned for accommodation for workforce, which would indeed be a big issue should Doha host the Games.

I love the whole Arabian Nights fantasy feel to it. It's so Scheherazade.

with athlete's and officials getting wet after the opening ceremonies at the Asian Games 2006 and their refusal to provide enough rooms for the athletes, plus the question if they will let Israel compete, they'll be lucky if they make it to the shortlist.

I hope the female athletes don't have to wear veils like Scheherazade...

I think Doha has a good bid - I am very positive surprised, but like I have already sait - Qatar has to earn its spurts first - it is not its turn in 2016.

by the way: the general venue plan doesn't open on my PC (just the cluster maps)
