Well, there were a few topics made, I found, about this subject. I guess the Universiade is not as popular to go for internationally, now that the IOC has created the Youth Olympic Games to "counter it." Without much fanfare, never mind not making much news, the awarding of the 2017 Summer and Winter Universiades went to Taipei and Almaty respectively. Brasilia was the only other bid, against Taipei, wanting to host the summer one. Almaty, which will most likely use the venues made for the 2011 Asian Winter Games, was the sole bidder for the winter one.
Is it just me or there seems to be a lot of sole bidders for these Games, especially for the winter one?

I honestly doubt many "average" people even know they exist. Even with us, the most likely demographic to be aware of them, they're at best a sideshow.

I think the Sheffield Games in 1991 only appeared on the radar in Britain because someone fell over carrying the flame. That's the only clip I think I've seen from them.
