Not from a critic.

James, you really do stumble around some threads here like a bull in a china shop sometimes.

You're getting better, though.

How come Popov and kendall can be re-elected, and not Bubka and Ctvrtlik? Also, is it only summer athletes running for the summer-year slots and the winter athletes for the off-year slots? What has the season timing got to do with it?

Easy Popov and Kendall both participated in the Athens 2004 Games and therefore can be candidate (only athletes participating in the current edition and having participated in the previous one can be elected). Bubka and Ctvertlick were both elected in Sydney for 8 years
As for the second question, winter Olympians elect their representatives and summer Olympians elect theirs. I think it does make sense. More summer Olympians are elected (8 total, 4 at each edition of the Games) than Winter Olympians (4 total, 2 at each edition of the Games) simply because more athletes take part in the summer Games than in the winter ones.

Finally, the IOC President has the authority to appoint additional Athletes Commission members in order to give more representation to women and/or athletes from all continents (but only the members elected by the athletes get full IOC membership and therefore can vote during Sessions).

Usually, athletes representing a NOC with huge delegation start with an advantage. Therefore, I wouldn't be surprised to see Popov, Liu and the American candidate elected.

I suspect Bubka will remain an IOC Member as a NOC President.

Usually Guardian keeps this up-to-date, but he's been a bit quiet lately. QAnyway, just stumbled on this:

Beng Choo becomes third Malaysian delegate in the IOC

PETALING JAYA: One of the country’s top sports administrators Low Beng Choo has scored a first for Malaysian women after being appointed a member of the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) women and sports committee.

The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) were informed of her appointment by IOC president Jacques Rogge on Friday.

With the recognition, Beng Choo, who is the OCM vice-president, is only the third Malaysian representative in the IOC.

The other two are OCM president Tan Sri Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja’afar (member of the IOC and the sport and law commission) and OCM deputy president Datuk Dr M. Jegathesan (member of the medical commission).

A delighted Beng Choo described her appointment as a shot in the arm for Malaysian women.

“This is a tremendous honour for Malaysia. I want to thank everyone involved in promoting women in sports – either as an athlete or as an official,” said Beng Choo, who heads OCM’s women and sports committee.

A lawyer by profession, Beng Choo said that she would continue to promote sports among women – within and beyond the country.

Any idea if the rule that a country that hosted the games is represented by 2 persons is still in use?

Usually, they add another one from the last host country as some sort of 'reward,' especially if those Games went well. But it's not a hard and fast rule.

Probably almost nobody knows who Pedro Yang from Guatemala is, but I think is good that small nations also can have this opportunity.

Yes. It's a good point. Keeps the IOC composition universal and gives more clout to countries who aren't sports powerhouses. Anyway, it's the participation that matters and not the victories.

Nobody does, Chapin, because he is NOT on the list. Unless he goes by another name.
