It's a shame. It sounds like the city could have done with the legacy.

Isn't detroit renound for making cars?

Is it still possible for Detroit to put in a future bid or would USOC discount them?

The IOC seems to have a love/hate relationship with 'Motowns'...they went to Fiat's home base, Torino, Hyundai's in Seoul, said yes to Mitsubishi's Tokyo but no to Mitsubishi's Nagoya, Volkswagen's Stuttgart couldn't beat out Leipzig for the 2012 German bid and of course Detroit has never had a look in.

Guess when you spend all your time in Rollers and Beemers and Mercs you don't worry about what the peons drive  :P

wat is even in Detriot other than cars
It's NOT all blighted.

- There is the Silverdome where the FIRST indoor matches of a World Cup were staged at WC-USA '94.

(d).
I was there at USA vs. Switzerland, hottest day of my life, or so it seemed. Incidently, the Silverdome's days are numbered. As for recent bids, there was talk of a combined bid with Windsor Canada for 2008, but it never went anywhere.

One correction; Avery Brundage was from Chicago, not Detroit. Douglas Roby was the IOC member from Detroit.

I guess Detroit never achieved the sophistication of Munich, the culture of Mexico City, the historic value of Rome, and the "new ground" factor of Melbourne and Tokyo. When it comes to 1952, Helsinki had a big chance of winning as it had been assigned as the replacement for Tokyo for the 1940 Summer Olympics (that never happened).

All of this is in the past.  Detroit 2024 is poised and ready to bring the games for the first time to the midwest!

Well if Detroit 2024 wants to beat those other cool contenders (like Oslo 2024 a-hem) it better do something like include midget wrestling, Boer War reconstructions and Zulu runners as per St Louis  :P

Hmmm, smoke stacks versus pristine Scandinavian forests and fjordland...I know where Jacques and his buddies wanna go  :laughlong:
Please.  The symbolism of the smokestacks will become evident when Detroit releases it's mini bid book and Jacques will be  begging to bring the Games to the birthplace of Avery Brundage! :unclesam:

And midget wrestling is soooooo 1904.  Dwarf tossing is where it's at now!  :wwww:

Meanwhile what is with that Oslo 2024 logo?  Looks like that ship is leaky and about to go down!

Well considering all the abandoned factories and now redundant GM workers, I bet Detroit can find some run down places and folks to help the 2024 bid  :P

And don't you worry bout the Oslo 2024 logo LA84...it's bid substance, not pretty pics that win games  :laughlong:

PS: I'm willing to swap votes with Detroit for 2024 so long as we can keep the French out

Canada has bid 17 times and only won three Olympics, not a high precentage, and Montreal bid 7 unsuccessful times before winning in 1976 so Detroit is not alone with a lot of wasted bids

In Montreal's previous attempts, was it the COC's official candidate?
