This is a first for me to see this in eBay. Someone is trying to sell a Barcelona 1992 Olympic torch for a minimum of US$1,500. Click on the link below to the eBay page:

Barcelona's opening and closing ceremonies were very nice, especially when they did something different regarding how the olympic flame was lit- with the arrow/archery method. It was copied by Atlanta in 1996.

What will Athens come up with I wonder.......
Atlanta copied Barcelona? Could you give me some examples to refresh my mind about this?

If there is any truth in the idea that hosting a successful Olympic Games can be a positive thing for a city, it is Barcelona's hosting of the Games of the XXV Olympiad in 1992.  The city's prestige, fame and popularity has soared upward like that firey arrow did 12 years ago.  Clearly, the Olympics changed the city for the better.

The strangest thing is (unless I'm wrong): it took the Athenian Games of 2004 for a Spanish architect to make his mark but nowhere in Barcelona did he have a single design connected with those Games.  (Of course, Calatrava being Madrid-based, might have had something to do with it.)

If there is proof that the Olympic Games can transform a city for the better, it is Barcelona.  A modernized transportation city, a revitalized waterfront, updated facilities, and a greater confidence are the benefits.  But on a dollar and cents level - Barcelona has become one of the top 5 tourist destinations in Europe.  That is because the Olympic Games introduced the world to this city and then this city kept the welcome open.
True- it's known as the "Barcelona effect," and that's why a lot of cities want the olympics games. The 1992 games have turned Barcelona into a world tourist destination.
