The Beijing deal looks like a good move -- for all around.  However:

FROM THE ARTICLE:  Newspapers have said that any deal would run for five years and after the Beijing Olympics, Barcelona would promote the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou.

1.  Promoting the Asian Games in Europe?  Oh, yeah, those events will sell out from halfway around the world -- especially with the 2010 World Cup happening in South Africa at about the same time as well.

2.  A red Beijing logo/name on those Red-and-Blue striped shirts?  Will kinda be hard to read at best.

Why was Barcelona such a heavy favorite to host the 92 Games?

well, uhmm... a certain Barcelonian just happened to be IOC president at the time.  Strange coincidence, doncha think?

Not one of the best Paralympic mascots tho, lol, 'Petra -  a young girl' wasn't an overly inspiring decision.

The fact that she didn't have arms (representing the paralympic athletes) was kind of original. She was part of the Cobi troupe, a large group of Cobi-like mascots (including Nosi, the mascot of the Cultural Olympiad).
Petra looked funny playing basketball with her ponytails (she used them as arms)!!!
The paralympic mascot designed that way could be an insult to the paralympic athletes. The facial expression of the mascot can imply that they're mentally retarded of some sort.. :)

But Barcelona 1992 was EXCELLENT, from the unveiling of the logo up to the closing ceremony, everything was superb!

Question.
Do you know if television in your countries shows the handover ceremony (or the ceremony for the lighting of the Flame? )
I've got a Seven News (Australia) report of the Sydney one, which showed everything you described. The reporter, Paul Marshall, mentioned the earthquake, and how "usually they let everyone in".

Yes, newsroom_can. A Paralympic archer (named Antonio Rebollo) lit the Olympic cauldron at Montjuic Olympic Stadium using a flaming arrow. See this web page from the Olympic web site:

Thank you very much.  I was only 9 or 10 at that time but I can still remember that moment.

The Barcelona Games were fantastic. The first Games I really remember, after only remembering a few bits and pieces from Seoul. I'll never forget the archer appearing to shoot the flame into the cauldron. Incredible image.
...and then, there was the scene where Seoul let hundreds of doves out, and a few of them flew into the flames of the Olympic cauldron! :P

is it true Mohammed Ali won a Olympic gold medal in boxing but through it in the river and said that there was no point because his country was divided or something like that....and then in 1996, the US let him light the cauldron and the IOC gave him a gold medal?
