But it hit the audience!  There wer close ups of people laughing their arses off!!!  It was just a funny, magic, memorable moment that summed up Barcelona - friendly and fun!

To me, Cobi on that boat was quite silly, coz you never got to see him in action (at least not shown on all the live telecasts)... and then before you know it, there he was saying goodbye and flew over the audience...

It was magnificent!  I could not imagine a more stunning venue... apart from the Opera House during the 2000 Triathlon, but even then - wow - Barcelona is gorgeous.

Barcelona is one of the most vibrant, welcoming cities that I have ever visited. Although I never was in Barcelona during the games, I have been many times after and have seen all of the venues etc. I would love to see the games here again and I think that it is the Catalan spirit that makes it so much more exciting of a place.

I agree. When I went to Barcelona on my last visit I stayed in
Sabadell, so I got to experience what day to day life is like there.

By the way, is Sabadell a proper part of Barcelona ( ie. a suburb), or is it regarded as a separate town altogether?
Sabadell is a separate 200,000 inhabitants town :)
I thought so! That probably explains why it took so long to get from sabadell to central Barcelona (place Catalunya) every day on the trains. Used to catch the train to Manresa on the way home in the evenings

Speaking of Barcelona and its Opening Ceremonies, a new NBC mini-series is starting just now: a new version of HERCULES.  It looks good.

What I liked, out of so many from the 1992 Olympic Games, was the backdrop of the diving venue. It looked like the venue was on top of a large hill. What a view!!!

Actually the venue is on top of a large hill; Barcelona's Olympic ring is in Montjuïc mountain, and from Bernat Picornell's swimming pools you can have a very nice view of the city.
Here you can see the mountain:
