while it is well known that Atlanta was dry and cool....

Actually, even I was surprised that Atlanta wasn't that torrid over the Olympic fortnight; and it rained a day or 2 during the latter half of TF week. Anyway, a good 1/3 of events were held in airconditioned or well-shaded venues. And the athletes doing the outdoor stuff didn't really complain. I think Athens was a lot hotter.

Well, I was pleasantly surprised by Athens.

Sure it was hot, but nothing compared to the temperatures they have had this summer, but it was dry and there was always a fresh wind coming from the sea at the evening.

Unfortunately the hottest day was for the women marathon where they suffered.
It was also really hot at theEquestrian venue in Markopoulo and at the Beach Volley venue.

Other than that, shadowing structure (Olympic Stadium roof thank god!) or air conditionning did it.
Passion lives here!

Oh, wow. That is got to be eerie, when something like that is exposed near Barcelona.

The emergence of the village has brought sightseers to the reservoir.

Remember, this village was destroyed to make way for the dam and its eventual flooding. To have something like this building to come back "from the dead" like that is sure going to creep some people out. Anyone interested in ghost hunting?

Ha! Another clue to where Dmitri Papaeonou (or whatever his name is) got his ideas for those elements rising out of the Athens 'lake' 4 summers ago.

Hey, baron. Another off-topic and could be possible. It seems that the Pokemon guys took a visit to Barcelona and created another one of their movies with a fictionalized look of it for the main setting. One of my friends got hold of this DVD for his kids (which they love the anime so much) and showed it to me. Here is the poster for the TENTH (I'm not mistaking the count here) Pokemon movie.

Take a look at the twin towers in the center of the poster. Does that remind any one of you a bit of the famed towers of Barcelona's famous on-going building of the Sagrada Familia? Here are two pictures of it that I found from this website.

If this is true, then I guess a lot of these Japanese Pokemon creators really like European settings for their latest inspirations.

So why did Spain choose Barcelona over Madrid?

Because a certain Catalan IOC president at the time wanted his hometown to party.

Not that the Spanish NOC had any choice.

Barcelona wants the games since 1920 (1924,1936,1940).Madrid was the choice of the Spanish NOC and government (Franco) in 1972.

Hmmm. . . so JAS was brom Barcelona so he twisted the arms of Spain's NOC. Makes me wonder why Avery Brundage never pushed for Detroit and got his way as his successor did.

Given today's climate in the IOC, could a city like Barcelona even host the games again?
