Thanks for sharing those Mexico

The nice part, if they do renovate, is that those nasty scoreboards and speakers will be gone and the peristyle will be restored to the way it was in 1932, when this picture was taken during the Olympics.

I cannot believe they would replace the rings with a scoreboard!!!!

Particularly as the venue is hardly used.

It is such a pity, it is a beautiful stadium.

The rings on the inside were used primarily for the torch-lighting sequence.  If some of you don't want those huge jumbotron boxes, then that's the place for a scoreboard.  Besides, there are the 5 rings on the outside of that main square arch.

I wish they would take down those ugly headless sculptures sitting on the outside.

Wouldn't it be interesting that if Los Angeles does in fact win another Olympic Games, and the Colliseum was the site of the opening and closing ceremonies, that the same cauldron that sits on top of the stadium would be used for the third time for the olympics, and be lit for the second time by a flame from athens? I thought that was interesting.
Highly doubtful.  Been there; done that.

Well, the Coliseum is a good candidate to host a World Athletics Championship. Besides, if Helsinki used its Olympic Stadium to do so this year, when why not LA?

I actually like those nude sculptures, they were commissioned specifically for the 1984 Olympics.

I remember a week before the '84 Games started, I was watching the news and they interviewed the young gentleman who posed for the male statue.  Hehe, the sculptor made a true likeness of the guy, without his head, of course... I remember the reporter making references to the size of his penis.  Hehe!  I remember being fascinated listening to that as a 14-year-old, and when I saw the statue in person up close, I could see that the guy who posed for it is circumcized.   :;): I remember, thinking, 'oh, so THAT'S what the guy looks like under his clothes.'
I still find them ugly - headless and feetless.    The offending sculptor was Robert Graham, Angelica's Huston's partner.

The model was Terry Schroeder, who I believe was captain of the US men's water polo team for 1984.  I also believe he is a practicing chiropractor somewhere in Orange County.

I wonder who the female model was.

[Hi, so you all moved in already?]

Funny, how we say 'sculptor' and 'model.'  Actually, I believe the hack Graham worked from body mold(s) for both torsos.  So, he didn't really do any 3-d 'sculpting' per se.

Can we all get another look at the new design render of the venue?
I feel like such a loser since I have this on my hard drive

This is what Los Angeles has propsed to get the NFL back to the city.  Apparently part of the design is that the new canopies would float and not touch the stadium and the additions to the peristyle would house the scoreboards. I don't really like the colonade at the opposite end because I think it should mimick the peristyle with arches.

Berlin set the bar pretty high when they renovated Olympic Stadium - but I think this would work
i think they should like keep the arches and like change mostly everyting else! It looks a little plain in 1984. this will do

The 1984 LA Games were the first I remember seeing and those giant arches still stand out in my mind as one of the most inspirational landmarks in Olympic history.  The fact that this is the only Summer Games stadium to have welcomed the Olympic flame twice makes it even more special.  My favourite stadium in the USA and one of the most historic and monumental stadiums to ever host the Olympics it is something the people of LA should be proud of and strive to preserve.

This staium is so profound architecturally that it needs no renovations (changes) at all. Stunning after all this time.
