This guy needs punishment and along with that a doctor.
I didn't see the closing ceremony of Atlanta so were there some sort of memorial ceremony during the closing? Did Sammaranch mention it during his speech? Were the celebration portions of the closing ceremony cancelled like how the celebration portions of the Paralympic Closing Ceremony of Athens 2004 were cancelled?

Rudolph to plead guilty, source says
Man accused in Olympics bombing would get 4 life sentences
By RHONDA COOK

Published on: 04/08/05
Eric Rudolph has agreed to plead guilty to the 1996 Olympics park bombing, the fatal blast at a Birmingham abortion clinic and two other explosions, a source close to the case, sources said today.
Three of the bombings were in Atlanta, and one in Birmingham.
According to sources close to the investigation, Rudolph is showing investigators where he had hidden bomb-making material and he is admitting to setting off bombs during the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, a club and an abortion clinic in Atlanta as well as an abortion clinic in Alabama.
An announcement on the plea deal was expected later today.
At least 40 pounds of bomb making material, mostly dynamite, was found near an armory in Murphy, N.C., near where the task force was based to search for him. They also found dynamite scattered throughout the North Carolina woods where agents were looking for him. Allegedly, most of the dynamite was taken from a rock quarry near Cherokee, N.C.
While many thought Rudolph was living off the land in the five years he was in hiding, sources say he was living with a man who has since died.
Rudolph was captured in 2003 near a grocery store trash bin in Murphy, N.C., in 2003.
A person close to the case who was briefed by the Justice Department on the plea agreement said Rudolph would receive four life sentences under the deal. Rudolph had faced a possible death sentence. The source spoke on condition of anonymity.

Although I agree, the FBI and local people tried to bait the public into thinking they had their guy.
Side note, after Rudolph pleads in Alabama, he will be brought to a courthouse here in Atlanta. Why couldn't Nichols have waited until then to go on a shooting spree downtown?!?!

Nothing was altered in the Closing Ceremony because of the 2 reasons already mentioned above. And correctly, the jackass Rudolph did not get his motives fulfilled. The fool is just going to rot in jail, or get raped (I hope he does) or get killed by his fellow inmates.

Words cannot express how much I despise this person.
Oh well - he avoided the death penalty. I'm sure that his white ass will be welcome for many years to come where he is going.
If there is any justice, the FBI and Atlanta Journal-Constitution would hold a news conference and express their regret and apologies to Richard Jewel whose life was essentially ruined despite the fact that he probably saved many people's lives that horrific evening.

Well, Rudolph confessed today. Said he had planned on five separate bombings in Atlanta to embarrass the government because of their abortion policies.
While I personally have issues with abortion, these anti-abortion radicals like Rudolph are just scary. And hyprocritical. I know I am sounding like a broken record now, but if he indeed was serious about preserving the sanctity of human life then he should have sent some sort of annonymous message to the authorities or media absolving Richard Jewell of any wrongdoing.
Obviously he doesn't have a real concern with how people are treated but is only concerned about his own cause.
As it is, with one bomb in July, 1996 he killed one woman, injured hundreds of others, destroyed the reputation of one man and put a huge smear on the City of Atlanta and the Olympic Games they had worked so hard to make a fun time. For what?
Nine years later and I am still pissed about this.
*steps off soapbox* :glare:
