FYI
This is just not going away, like some people thought it would.
Ikarus360
Well, it had to be done. Beggars can't be choosers.
JMarkSnow2012
It would be a neat irony if this course was followed, and the 2024 games went like a dream, while the 2028 host nation started descending into civil war from 2018 onward (which seems, this particular week, like a possibility for either of them). FYI
^Well, that doesn't make sense. Cuz if that was the case, then both sets of Games would be screwed nontheless. Not to mention the world, BTW.
StefanMUC
Maybe after all, they're coming to their senses and grab the pu...opportunity of securing two (on paper) reliable host cities in one go. And then hope and pray that Le Pen won't win (and not in 22 either) and the orange creep doesn't get a second term to get more than enough distance by the time 2028 rolls on (assuming the sequence is Paris-LA, not the other way around). An article in the L.A. thread pretty much indicates an order of Paris 2024 & L.A. 2028.
thatsnotmypuppy
I say do it. These two bids show that the Games can be staged without massive infrastructure upgrades. It gives the IOC a half arsed gold star for being "responsible" and gives them the breathing room to tweak Agenda 2020 so that when 2032 comes around there is more interest. Also 'distance makes the heart grow fonder' will apply - a decade without any Olympic bid processes will make the 2032 race quite a contest. For the first time since the early 90s, I feel like Australia might actually have a shot at 2032 following Durban's demise (and Toronto being regionally blocked due to LA28).
