woohooitsme83
Wow such a modern design. Very winter. So 2008. Wow Yea, the website is pretty bland and generic. But the logo, despite looking strikingly similar to other Chinese bids, actually have some meaning. There's the obvious one (person, torch flame, etc) and the not so obvious one. The curly lines look like the Chinese character '冬' (dong), which roughly means 'Winter' in English. So yeah, not that significant, but still a good-to-know-fun-fact, I suppose. Olympic Fan Darcy
What the hell is Yanqing? Dear lord, more events that aren't in Beijing! There are more events that AREN'T in Beijing then there are events in Beijing!

Olympic Fan Darcy
Oh no I saw, but still when you think of Beijing you think of the heart of the city, not the outer districts and certainly not 74km /over an hour away from the main stadium. woohooitsme83
It's all going to be okay. Beijing will annex the area and everything will be fine and dandy!
Athensfan
It's as if the Chinese thought to themselves, "We thought this was a dry run, but we could actually end up WINNING this thing. I guess we better get a website up."

mr.bernham
This site has a video: http://english.cri.cn/12394/2014/08/01/3521s838694.htm I was sold when they used my favorite Olympic themed song. NBC used it for the Athens 2004 opening ceremony thingy (Those intro videos that are so emotional and make you fall in love with that country instantly, its the only thing NBC does well when it comes to the Olympics) Below are both videos for your viewing pleasure (along with the Sydney one because it is just the best) Athens 2004 Introduction Sydney 2000 Introduction https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAV_R0RoQxU Salvation for a Proud Nation Don't click that last one...it brings you to the wrong place. Here is the right one:

mr.bernham
I can imagine Americans saying this... "And the bobsled competitions will be held in Yan-qang , and the Snowboarding competition will be in Zang-ja-ku." Way to go butchering languages. Sadly that's inevitable with non-tonal speakers attempting a tonal language. I had a Chinese roommate for a year who quickly gave up trying to teach me Mandarin. Yes, I understand that, but I feel like Americans will not even try.
