The history of my torch is really interesting. My father bought it from a friend, who got it from an estate auction. The original owner died and his family sold the torch.

By the way, did you know, that the torch from Fritz Schilgen (last torch bearer in 1936), was destroied during the Second World War ? Almost 50 years later,he got a duplicate by the German Olympic Committee as a present.

In 1996,the Olympic Flame returned to Berlin for a small torch relay.Fritz Schilgen had the honour to lit the original Berlin 1936 Cauldron, once again.

I think, that there were made round about 36000 torches.

A lot of them were destroied during the war and you may not forget, that Germany was occuppied after the war-so a lot of Olympic stuff, was brought to the USA and USSR.

Sorry, I made a mistake. 3840 torches were made-not 36000! :)
All the more amazing that any Berlin 1936 torches could survive through all this time, since they were created.

You must be lucky to get one at that price.

Besides, where I am now, there's one on display at the Calgary Olympic Museum and Hall of Fame. I was kind of surprised that it had one relatively quick.

I see.

Makes me wonder how CODA got its Berlin 1936 Olympic torch in its small torch collection?
