Last week "The First" (a Beijing newspaper focus on Beijing 2008 news, sort of official Olympic Organzing Committee newspaper) announced the notice of recuiting 100 "youth embrassdors" from Beijing and the Western provinces respectively. All students from 10-16 years old can apply for it. They should prepare a small gift which can represent their native hometown culture, and will all attend the launching ceremony of the Olympic mascot.
Base on this action, I guess the mascot will be something relate to the Western provinces. Seems that the organizing Committee chose a mascot which can draw the world's attention to the China's less-developed western region.
