Not bad, actually

I'll keep looking for more . . .
The only problem is the cheap sence of colour , thank God
they did not used that cheap yellow paper!  :)
If that's the final rendering of the mascot, then I approve it.  It doesn't look all that amateurish ...especially NOT compared to a certain stone idol that shall remain nameless.  (I mean even Izzy is better than Insh*tquit or whatever the name of that 2010 thing is...).

The red color on the apron is fine because RED is the good luck-good life color in CHinese culture.  I would change the apron shape a little though.

What's with the mark on the forehead?  It looks like a branding of the torch.  But why on the forehead?  THe adornment of the forehead is a Hindu practice -- certainly not in 'godless' China.

But we shall see.  I certainly hope Beijing makes up for the absolutely hideous choice of Vancouver.

Now the next question is: what is her name (as I think it is a "she")?

Last week "The First" (a Beijing newspaper focus on Beijing 2008 news, sort of official Olympic Organzing Committee newspaper) announced the notice of recuiting 100 "youth embrassdors" from Beijing and the Western provinces respectively. All students from 10-16 years old can apply for it. They should prepare a small gift which can represent their native hometown culture, and will all attend the launching ceremony of the Olympic mascot.

Base on this action, I guess the mascot will be something relate to the Western provinces. Seems that the organizing Committee chose a mascot which can draw the world's attention to the China's less-developed western region.
Panda is from Sichuan Province.
Qinghai Province's candidate mascot is also powerful.
Xu Wen-Ting,
Do you know what could Qinghai's mascot perhaps be?

The head of the National Sport Authority Liu Peng said on the OCA General Assembly at Guangzhou that the mascot of 2008 will be announced in 12th Nov 2005, 1000 days before the Olympic.

Seems that the Organizing Committee has got in trouble to decide the mascot. Several provinces (yes, the provincal governments) have proposed their characteristic fingues to be the Olympic mascot. Jiangsu proposed the Monkey King, Sichuan proposed the Grand Panda, Qianghai proposed the Tibetan antelope etc etc. Many of them think that if the Olympic mascot is come from their province, they will be better known internationally, and will bring economic benefit to them. So the choice of mascot becomes, sort of, a political issue of how to balance the interest of different provinces.

BTW, don't put too much expectation on the masoct, I guess it will be a very conservative choice.

I hope in order to save face and not pacify/please certain parties over another and inevitably create more conflict, they select the Chinese/eastern astrology sign of the year that the Beijing games are held, which is the mouse of earth/"green" mouse.

Well, it is the first animal of the Chinese zodiac. Therefore, re-starting the 12-year cycle here. However, I don't think it will be a mascot per se, but could be part of an opening ceremony scene.

Yeah, it could be great! I haven't thought in that 'animal'.

Yeah, but panda was the mascot of the 1990 Asian Games of Beijing and it could be a little repetitive...
   Like "...Madrid this...Madrid that..."?
