So, after being a Games Maker for London - I'd like to do something else like this.
Glasgow is too far away and all the future Winter/Summer Olympics are even further.
But wait. England host the 2015 Rugby World Cup!

So does anyone know if volunteers are used for Rugby World Cups usually - or if there are plans to have a volunteer team in 2015?

Thanks!

(And I'm aware I could go and volunteer locally and paint a bus stop or help at a homeless shelter, but I don't like painting and I don't like homeless people ;) )

A World Cup (Rugby or Football) is something easy to organize and a rather small event compared to the Olympics !

But YES, there is a need for Volunteers... around 6,000 !!!!
THANK YOU LONDON - MERCI LONDRES !

World Cup 2015 organisers hoping to recruit volunteers from London 2012 Olympic Games

England Rugby 2015 is aiming to harness the overwhelming success of the Olympic ‘Games Makers’ by asking them to consider applying for similar roles at the World Cup

ER 2015 have been permitted access to the Locog database containing details of the 70,000 people who volunteered for roles at the London Games. The organising body will send out details of how to volunteer for positions at the World Cup.

ER 2015 estimates that it requires 6,000 volunteers to help run the tournament, a 2,000 increase on the number that took part in last year’s World Cup in New Zealand.

Volunteers have always been the lifeblood of grass-roots rugby and the majority of applications is likely to come from England’s clubs.

However, ER 2015 is determined that the World Cup will not be restricted to traditional rugby strongholds, hence its plan to approach Olympic volunteers, which will probably happen before March.

“Locog have put together, as part of their legacy programme, the ability for all major sporting federations to work with them, allowing them to access and mail out to that database,” Ross Young, ER 2015 chief operating director, said.

“The role of volunteers has become so important. You can’t do without them because they give that feelgood factor around the venues and city centres, acting as ambassadors for the tournament.”
