Both countries and respective cities know that would not fly well with the IOC, let alone be accepted.

After checking Google Maps, Detroit is the closest major US city to Toronto.

-Will never happen.
I do hope Toronto hosts 2024 though. Very beautiful city and reminds me a lot of Sydney.

Toronto is nothing like Sydney. Sydney is more like Vancouver geographically, and even culturally.
Toronto is probably more comparable to Melbourne in terms of its urban design and geography -- Melbourne's is also the fastest growing city in Australia and at current rates would overtake Sydney in population in the next 20 years -- similar to Toronto's eclipse of Montreal.
As for the topic at hand... every Olympic year these civic "experts' come out with their brash ideas to change the Games. It's often those with vague aspirations of co-hosting- Like Seattle-Vancouver. Sadly cohosts are not allowed, even though physically they'd probably be possible.
One cohosting situation I'd love to see would be Glasgow-Edinburgh for the Olympics. A "Scotland" Olympics would be a great alternative to London.

Glad to see I shouldn't be concerned about Toronto bidding for a Games in the near future with a mayor making public statements like that...
No that was not the mayor. That was a rogue councilor that does not know what he's talking about. The mayor was in favour of studying a potential bid.
