Special film released by Commonwealth Games Federation to celebrate Queen's Diamond Jubilee

June 3 - The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has released a new film to coincide with the celebrations for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, which are currently taking place across Britain.

The special five-and-a-half minute film, "The Queen and the Games", is narrated by former broadcasting legend Barry Davies and tells the story of her involvement with the Commonwealth Games.

The Queen is the patron of the CGF and had attended every Commonwealth Games since Edinburgh in 1970 until the event in New Delhi two years ago, which she missed, blaming a heavy workload, although it was reported that she was upset at the allegations of corruption that overshadowed the build-up.

A message from the Monarch has been read at every Games since she became Queen in 1952 and in 1958 a new tradition of the Queen's Baton Relay was begun.

At Buckingham Palace, the Queen handed over her Games message, enclosed in a specially designed silver-gilt Baton, to two relay runners.

The Baton was then carried by a relay of runners to Cardiff so that the message could be read out by the Duke of Edinburgh at the Opening Ceremony.

Sing - by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Gary Barlow.

The video for Sing, the official song of the Diamond Jubilee. Performed by the Military Wives with Gareth Malone and musicians from across the Commonwealth including the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force Band, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Slum Drummers from Kenya's Kibera slum, African Children's Choir and many more.

Recorded at Abbey Road studios and also on location in Australia, Kenya, Jamaica and the Solomon Islands, find out the full list of performers here: http://www.jubileesing.com/performers

Sing:

Some words they can't be spoken only sung
So hear a thousand voices shouting love

There's a place, there's a time
In this life when you sing what you are feeling
Find your feet, stand your ground
Don't you see
Right now the world is listening to what we say

Sing it louder, sing it clearer
Knowing everyone will hear you,
Make some noise, find your voice tonight
Sing it stronger, sing together
Make this moment last forever
Old and young
Shouting love tonight

To sing we've had a lifetime to wait
And see a thousand faces celebrate

You brought hope, you brought light
Conquered fear, it wasn't always easy
Stood your ground, kept your faith
Don't you see
Right now the world is listening to what we say

Sing it louder, sing it clearer
Knowing everyone will hear you,
Make some noise, find your voice tonight
Sing it stronger, sing together
Make this moment last forever
Old and young
Shouting love tonight

Some words they can't be spoken only sung
To hear a thousand voices shouting love
And light and hope

I must admit, watching coverage of the Diamond Jubilee today has gotten me really excited about the upcoming Games.

The Queen seems fit and healthy but her haggard look at the Olympic Opening ceremony and lite workload has reminded everyone that she is in her twilight life and Prince Phillip's health is clearly her biggest distraction. She will easily make it to Glasgow...But I doubt if Phillip will be there...and expect Charles to open Gold Coast '18. The Queen will be too frail to travel.

After seeing the Young Royals so prominent at the London Olympic Games, I would hope we get to see more of them at upcoming Glasgow and Gold Coast CGs. They add a more modern and youthful charm to the Royal Family.

Yes definatly the 'Wales's to the for...Hopefully the most popular, Harry, will have a princess beside him by then. He looked so stunned and alone up there at the 2012 Closing.
The Queen will always be dear to the Commonwealth...It belongs to her, but you're right, it's time to move on. Miss her we will.

It would be so weird to start hearing "God Save The King" instead of "God Save The Queen"
