I'm surprised that Perth isn't mentioned as a possible venue if they were interested.

On the other side of the country, and the possible development of a major new stadium, it would seem the ideal opportunity to design a facility similar to what they did in Durban, South Africa able to hold football, rugby, athletcs and cricket. This could be the centre piece for an Olympic bid

Whilst Brisbane has a lot of infrastructure seemingly in place, a lot of it would require a massive upgrade if not complete replacement.

The QEII stadium has a capacity of 49,000 and built for the 1982 Commonwealths. It would need to be completely overhauled if not replaced.

Also are a number of existing facilities at the capacity required for the Olympics v the Commonwealths - like the Acquatics Centre, the Olympics etc.

There's a lot to like, but also a huge amount of money needed to be spent more so than Melbourne

I can't see Brisbane or even Australia again before 2040

yeah i know we won't get it before 2040 and we need a few upgrades and new stadiums we have suncorp which can hold 55 000 if we can upgrade that one and build a few more maybe use some gold coast venues?

I'd think the Gold Coast venues at over 80km would be too far apart from sailing if you wanted something compact.

But you've got an Athletics site, a Tennis venue, a Football Stadium, a large cricket ground, plus an largish indoor stadium so there is a basis

Brisbane neighbour Gold Coast is hosting the 2018 Commonwealth Games and Brisbane is co hosting some of the events and if they do a great Job of that then I could see them land the 2028 Olympics Games.

Queensland just had an election and the Liberal National Party lead by the x Lord Mayor of Brisbane Campbell Newman won 78 out of the 89 seats in the Queensland Parliament a Government which could last more then 15 + Years and now Peter Costello is helping to run the Queensland books which by 2020 which could see a massive surplus and Brisbane will be in a strong position to host the 2028 Olympics and Paralympics Games.

I think either 2028 or 2036 the Summer Olympics Games will go to Brisbane Queensland Australia.

That will be far too early

If 2024 goes to Paris? then you've got the USA and South Africa and Toronto going for 2028 and 2032 and then in 2036 you've got maybe Berlin, not to mention the cities who fail in the 2020 competition - that's before we even consider the likes of Doha and Dubai

Anything before 2040 is unrealistic for a city which barely registers on the international consciousness.

And don't forget it was 44years between Melbourne and Sydney, and there are now far more potential hosts

Perth? Only once they have their 60,000 seater stadium (assuming that it can be modified to have an athletics track). They could host a "quaint" Olympics. Other key venues could serve to replace existing facilities and be part of a state sports complex for example. Accommodation is easily solved with the assistance of cruise ships alongside proposed accommodation. The international airport needs expansion (well it needs integration of Domestic and International terminals), regardless and the rail network seems adequate enough (with additional trains) to support such an Olympics.

It might work and could give any Brisbane bid a run for it's money.

Tokyo is one of the world's popular cities including me!

Well we did consider bidding as early as the 1972 Olympics (where Sydney first thought of using Homebush as the main Olympic site) Then for the 1988 Olympics, first with Sydney, then the official AOC (then AOF) backing of Melbourne (who thought of the ridiculous idea of using Waverley Park as the main stadium) for Australia's Bicentennial, which of course got withdrawn before the official race.

What's a couple of dozen million in bidding? Especially if half the costs will be from the corporate sector and donations. Only once we try again and fail miserably, then we will know that it's too soon.

Istanbul failedmisetably yet now is looking great a few bids would get the name ot there like doha and Baku. What's with Perth it's small compared to brizzy and tiny compared to Sydney I don't know there infrastructure but they havnt hosted much lately if Brisbane can land some events it would do good hopefully bid 2028, I think so might back a melbourne bid for 24 and when they fail give Brisbane a shoy

I wonder with the 88 Olympics would brisbane have had a shot. World expo comm games. Bicentennial. Only up against Nagoya and seoul

Never knew much about perth never thought of it as a serious threat smaller then brisbane but if they build infrastructure they could get it. I did not know they had 1.8 million people thats pretty good more then Doha and almost as much as Baku. Brisbane has 2 million i think we need some upgrades and renovations, we are having our city election in 8 days so hopefully they will give us some new exciting stuff
