Another Sarajevo Olympics what do you think?

54 posts in this topic

^^ Might have been because of the Global Financial Crisis. There's plenty of cities out there that clearly want to host, but they chose not to bid because of the GFC being around in 2008/2009.

I suspect more cities coming forward for 2022.

Then why did only 3 bid for 2018?

I think several cities pulled out because of other commitments or a lack of government support.

In 2014, there were 3 candidates in the bidding process, but another 4 submitted official bids but were not shortlisted to go to the next stage.

Announcement of the leaders of the Alliance for a Better Future of BiH Fahrudin Radoncic that as the largest development project BH candidacy next year will be to organize the Winter Olympics 2022nd year, has met with the approval of the BiH public. Radončić the notion that the very mass-candidacy papers to run and final out of the lethargy in which our country is there for years, agrees and Enes Terzic, former coordinator of the 14th Operations Center Olympic Games, held in the 1984th in Sarajevo.

Centre world Terzic, as one of the most deserving people that even after 28 years of the Sarajevo Olympics speaks in superlatives, first mentioning of running again for organizing the Sarajevo Winter Olympics expressed optimism that the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina could be again " center of the world. "

Terzic: Great idea noteworthy

- This is a great and, above all, the development of ideas that they need all the support. Congratulations Radoncic what this initiative was obviously ready to put into practice. He is a businessman who has proven in several fields, and if this work we selected the best shots, and those incapable of this project apart, I believe we can successfully organize the Olympics 2022nd - Terzic said. additional impetus to this initiative are definitely a good experience from 1984. year. Organizing Olympics in Sarajevo contributed to a booming economy and tourism, not only in the capital city of Bosnia than in the wider region. Also important is the fact that he then built a large number of whole residential areas, as well as numerous sports facilities, with the adequate rehabilitation, again able to host the best athletes of the world. Radončić welcomes the idea and Marijan Kvesic, a member of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Kvesić emphasizes that both nominations and the Olympics were a good opportunity not only for the development of BH sport but also the whole society.

Kvesic: Support initiative

- We have plenty of Olympic capacities that should modernize and invest in infrastructure, but I think that this is a long-term profitable investment, because our mountains after the Games and other attractive tourist destination - says Kvesic.

Overture good support Radončićevoj idea of running for the Sarajevo Winter Olympics 2022nd it shows Vinko Radovanovic, the mayor of East Sarajevo. He along with Sarajevo Mayor Alija Behmen said candidacy to organize the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) 2017th year, and that two of the organization should receive a confirmation In less than a month in the Israeli city of Eilat.

Radovanovic: Double Celebration

- I think that this event was a good test and an overture to the Olympics 2022nd in Sarajevo, and certainly supports the initiative for that nomination - says Radovanovic. Impressive numbers

  • 18th May 1978th Sarajevo in the Athens Olympic Games Organizing accepted
  • 567 projects are realized before the Olympics in Sarajevo in 1984. The
  • 49 teams of National Olympic Committees participated in the 14th Winter Olympics
  • 2,500 athletes and their escorts were in the Olympics in Sarajevo
  • 7283 Winter Olympics journalists accompanied the 1984th
  • 30,000 people were directly involved in organizing the 14th Winter Olympics
  • 12,500 guests attended the official Olympics
  • 2 billion people a day accompanied by a television broadcast from Sarajevo

Could sometimes can today

in 1968. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, based in Paris (OECD), the special project Sarajevo region declared a potential and attractive area for development zimskosportskog and inland tourism in Europe. Otherwise, Sarajevo was the first city in the history of the Winter Olympics, which as a region in development appeared in the role of the organizers of this great event. And then, even today, the organization of such games was some sort of exclusivity rich and developed countries. However, many believe that if the Sarajevo could then, and can now be hosting the biggest sporting snowy fairytale in the world. St. Moritz, Innsbruck LAKE Placid and cities that have twice hosted the Winter Olympics.

If Turkey gets 2020 and Davos-St. Moritz bids, that cooks any Sarajevo goose. But if Turkey loses and Doha/Dubai make all sorts of noises for 2024, then a Sarajevo 2022 bid could possibly be in the driver's seat. Also, some Bosnian athletes must at least start to shine in Sochi to bolster a renewed Sarajevo bid.

Sarajevo won the bid to hold the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival

Sarajevo to host European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in 2017‎

After 28 years Sarajevo will once again have the opportunity to light the Olympic flame. Sarajevo and East Sarajevo won a joint bid at the weekend to hold the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in2017 hoping that it can revive the spirit of the 1984 Winter Olympics.

1984 Olympic Games were held while Bosnia and Herzegovina was still part of Yugoslavia. Most of its Olympic facilities on nearby mountains were destroyed during the 1990s war but many have been rebuilt in recent years.

The fact that Sarajevo and East Sarajevo will be hosting the games means that tourism industry in Bosnia and Herzegovina will benefit the most.

Experts believe that sports infrastructure in Sarajevo and East Sarajevo has to be rebuilt, which would open opportunities for the future candidacy of these cities for other sporting events.

The youth Olympics event is expected to attract some 1,500 athletes from 50 European countries and is estimated to cost around 15 million Euros, including the reconstruction of some sports facilities.

While the announcement has brought excitement and joy among the locals, experts hope that this major international sports event will improve the ties between Sarajevo and East Sarajevo.

Same comment as I made on the thread about Greece getting the WOG. Hosting winter sporting events more often than never would be the first step to take. Beside, Croatia and Slovenia both have way better winter sports tradition from the former Yugoslav states.

Why?

Why to what the not likely part?

Well 5 athletes isn't going to do it especially if they don't win medals. We have Germany waiting as well plus Poland, Slovenia, Slovakia and possibly the Ukraine presenting much better Eastern European bids.

A Sarajevo games will be mostly based on sentimentality and more importantly the message of peace on account of their troubled history in the early 90's.

They could use the Olympics to showcase how they've overcome adversity and reconciled with their neighbours (who will all be supporting the bid and gladly attending), as well as emphasis on use of the venues from the 1984 Olympics (as well as a perfect opportunity to rejuvenate them) and the opportunity to construct new legacy venues as well.

That being said, the city could make use of a modern arena, supporting the Zetra Ice Hall. Doubt the speed skating oval could be used in it's current state, so build a new one.

Vacant land up north could serve the new arena, perhaps a minor one, speed skating oval, Main Media Center (turned convention center) and the Olympic Village.

Really? After Sochi/Pyeonchang? The IOC will return to a more traditional host in 2022, and as for 2026 the US has a good shot (if 2024 fails) so... Good luck Sarajevo in the 30's ;)

I heard that they were converted to some sort of hotels post Olympics.

But if you're going to build a western style arena in their major university, then sure, uni dorms could be of use.

Maybe so, but they have far more chances of any other city in the region - including Belgrade and Zagreb.

Dogs on streets or not, I see no reason why Sarajevo can't host a second Winter Olympics in the 2030's or later - assuming that Serbian nationalism doesn't rear its ugly head again. With a recovered European economy, I see no reason why it can't happen. There would sure be a sentimental weight behind it.

for winter games, they have ofc.

Serbian nationalism??? Are you crazy?? Do you know who started the war? Bosniaks when they killed all people during the Serbian wedding in Sarajevo, that's how war in Bosnia started :P

Well i said in next 20 years, they can not, but in 35s, 40s maybe. For 20 years they didn't manage to recover economy, especially federation of Bih, so it's slightly possible to happen in next 20 years.

^^ It's chatter like that even tongue in cheek that would not make you liked around here. ;)

The Serbs were responsible for the war and Europe for not ending it quickly.

I think another Sarajevo bid attempt, especially for the 2020's would be considerably stronger than the 2010 bid.

By then they could justify the likes of a proper modern arena and such.

But a Sarajevo bid even for 2026 and 2030 would still be too close to an Is-lamic/tanbul Olympics, if Tanbul wins 2020.

But not to be understood wrong, i would like to Sarajevo host games again, it would be good to have games such close + it would help a lot to winter sports in region. But when Slovenia, with way stronger economy and descent number of venues, and very developed winter sports can't, it's not objective to expect Sarajevo games in 2026/2030.....even 2032 is early, considerin current situation. Economy on the 1st place
