Ten years after Salt Lake City hosted the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, Utah Governor Gary Herbert is in discussions regarding a bid for another Salt

I read this article and all that came from my mouth was "No no no no no no no no no no no no no no!" What? 10 years so soon. Now I know that there are less cities that can host the Winter Games than the summer but really? Reno Tahoe has been talking about this for decades now. That just seems insensitive. lol

Exactly my thoughts, alphamale86. Anyway, I think it's quite strange that so many cities (Salt Lake, Denver, Reno, ...) have decided yet to bid although USOC has never said they would bid for 2022...

Maybe that tells you something about the direction the expect the USOC to go for with 2022. Or maybe it's just a lot of empty words, as if we haven't seen plenty of that.

I remember reading in 1 of the articles that there's some fund or endowment that they expect to run out of money in about a decade or so and that's part of why Salt Lake is pursuing another Olympics. Umm, sorry fellas, but that money is supposed to last a lifetime, not 20 years. Yes, there's an element of this where SLC has most of the facilities and infrastructure they'd need to host another Olympics (most of which came from 2002, of course), but especially in a country with other cities that are willing and able, how likely is it that the IOC is going to go back to Salt Lake so soon. My guess.. not very.

The Utah governor also needs to look at the element of how likely they R to succeed if they were to pursue this. The IOC has never returned to a previous host city so soon unless they were forced to do so. They really need to think outside the box N not just what seems to make sense for them. They R not in control when it comes to that aspect.

at the local level, of course boosters aren't going to think that anytime is soon enough--esp, after they hosted a rather successful Games. That will be the USOC's job to separate the chaff from the grain. A 3-way race could only be good for the USOC.

Too soon for Salt Lake City to host the Winter Olympics Games I can see the WOG going to Reno - Lake Tahoe in 2022 and also going to Anchorage and Denver before going back to Salt Lake City, SkiFreak I can see the games going back to Calgary in the next 22 years despite if Toronto Canada wins the 2024 Olympics Games Bid.
