Tourism created by a Winter Olympics would not be limited to just winter visitors. If it's a beautiful city, why shouldn't they visit in other seasons as well. The measure would be in the overall uptick of visitors...not just "winter" or "summer" visits.
That's what they should try to change! I think some city have a "winter" status for many... Many think ooo Vancouver is too cold, just cuz they've heard WOG where there doesn't means its always cold. That's why i said SOG boost turism for all tear, sadly WOG just seasonal... As Torino's case i think it's even better in summer, it is of cousre a really awesome city, the museum inside Mole Antonelliana, for example, its great!!

I think a better comparison would be rome 1960 than turin 2006. How the 1960 rome olympics transformed italy into the country that we came to know after the devastation of world war ll. Much like tokyo 1964, the rome 1960 olympics helped italy get onto the world stage and also helped italy jumpstsart their economy. A rome 2020 olympics could be seen as a renaissance of the 1960 summer games to maybe help italy out of these trying times.

considering the current, global economic climate, these games should be about trimming down costs and avoiding white elephant venues anyway. And rome 2020 is offering up such a plan. And since the ioc likes to talk about such measures for future games, now is the pefect opportunity for them to put their money where their mouth is.

But Rome 1960 is 50 years ago; 60 by the time 2020 rolls around. So that wouldn't be a good comparison. Torino 2006 is a 21st century Olympics, so that is their better yardstick. And I don't know that Rome will get an appreciable uptick in its tourism dollars because Rome will always be Rome in the way that Paris will always be Paris, regardless of an Olympics.

Well but Rome isn't in the same status as the past now the three most visited cities in Europe in order are:
1) Paris
2) London
3) Barcelona
The 3rd spot was always Rome, but the '92 olympics where stuning ang changed the city alot! And it made Rome go down from it's all life 3rd most visited city, only olympics or a decesnt Euro will help Rome ;)
