The #IOC confirm that an unexplored second-world-war bomb was discovered in the centre of Innsbruck this evening.

The #IOC postpone tonight's medal presentations in the centre of Innsbruck as a precaution. Bomb disposal squads are on site & working now

... well, many american and british bombs (I just wonder if the Soviets made air raids on the Third Reich, too - I have never heard of that) didn't exploded - when these unexploded bombs are found (e.g. during the construction of a house or bridge etc. etc.) they are disarmed by special squads of the German/Austrian fire rescue - the problem are the fuses of the bombs - the longer the bombs are lying undiscovered in the earth the more the fuses are prone to explode...

The American and the British Air Forces gave a lot of intelligence photos (which were shot after the raids) to the authorities of Germany and Austria - since you can analyse the pics, if there is a bomb which didn't explode - when a bomb is found on the pics, which didn't explode it is searched for the bomb...

Lately it become more and more often that people have to be evacuated from their flats and houses to get out of the area, which is in danger during the squads are trying to disarm bombs - in june 2010 three persons were killed by a bomb, when it the disarming was prepared.

No reason for panic! There are often found unexploded WW II bombs, especially here in Germany. Yeah, it's unfortunate that it happened during the YOG, but I don't know one case in which a bomb exploded during the recent years. Wait a few hours, the bomb will have been defused and everything will go its normal way again.

I know it's nothing to panic about but right in the middle of the Olympics in the medal plaza is very unfortunate indeed!

It's not in the medal plaza, but 3 streets away at 400 m ...

Personnaly, i thought it created some fun, such unpredicted events, as there was no real danger for everyone, as well under control :)
THANK YOU LONDON - MERCI LONDRES !
