I did some "investigations" today - I compared the travel times between the "normal" journey planner on "tfl.gov.uk" and the journey planner on LOCOG's website...

I compared ten different journeys (which I have to make in summer) - and the LOCOG journey planner shows at every journey 1 hour more than the planner on tfl.gov.uk

I searched e.g. for the trip from Cutty Sark to Greenwich Park - the LOCOG one shows 1:10 hours - the tfl one shows 20 minutes...

Honestly, an hour doesn't sound totally crazy to me.

If I am starting at *an* entrance to Greenwich Park, I have to get from there to wherever security is, wait in line and get through security, then get from security to the arena inside the park. That's going to take a good portion of the hour. Add in extra time due to the heavy crowds, and it's easily an extra 45 minutes. The extra hour may include some padding, but not a ton.

For strategic reasons, security is usually someplace set apart from both transportation hubs and the venue.
