I just checked the journey planner on the LOCOG website - I have a problem - on that website - the time between Eton Dorney and the North Greenwich Arena is given with 3:39 minutes - I have tickets for two events on the same day in these venues with exactly 3:40 minutes time difference - I wonder if I had to leave Eton Dorney earlier than the end of the event or if I shall sell the tickets via LOCOG...

Sell them because who knows the first event might go longer then anticipated.

You'll be fine. Chances are that your first event will be done early, and you'll make it in plenty of time.

The estimated travel times given between venues at previous Olympics have been very conservative. A time given between venues such as two hours could really be done in 45 minutes. So, I'm guessing you're probably ok. Also, if your first event is a medal event, you could skip out on the final medal ceremony and get about 20 extra minutes.

I honestly can't believe it's that long a journey! Eton to London is a half hour journey, and from Waterloo you'll be able to get the Jubillee Line to North Greenwich. I don't know how far Eton Lake is from the station, but I'd be amazed if it takes 3 hours 40 mins!!

Don't sell your ticket, I really cannot think this would be a problem.

There estimates are almost always exaggerated. I think the thing that will take you longest between venues is the security check. I remember in Beijing waiting to get into the Bird's Nest we were in the security line for about 25 minutes. That was a once off though and the other events I went to did not take that long to wait in the line for security checks.

When estimating times they usually allow for walking at a pace of 4km/h, which is quite slow.

What's the problem, even with the conservative estimate, you've got a minute to spare.

I actually don't think the estimates are wildly conservative. From the rowing, we'll have to walk from the stands to the bus staging area (which looks to be a good distance away) then wait to get on a bus, take a bus to one of the stations, wait for a train, get the train into London (with possible transfer). Then in London get on the tube to the O2. At the O2, they could have us meandering around to who knows where to get in the security line, then we have to get through the line, then meander back to the O2. Once in the O2, you'll need to get to seats.

In all my Olympic event viewing, I'm not sure I've ever overestimate how long is will take to get to an event.

Is security that bad for Summer Games? I don't remember waiting much to get through security in Vancouver.

I decided not to sell my ticket - but it is interesting to see that the journey planner calculates 1:20 hours from leaving the venue in Eton Dorney to the depart of the train in Slough (including walk to the bus stop area at the venue - a bus ride and a walk to the train station)
