Doesn't matter if it doesn't bode well for Chicago cuz they're not even on the radar. Whereas Reno N Denver are.

In fact Munich's exit could be harmful for a North American bid for 2024.

Doesn't do much for Chicago either.

...and Chicago hasn't shown an ounce of interest since its elimination for 2016.

Also, NOTE. The world has NEVER had a Pope, an IOC president and a Winter host of the same nationality...all the same time. The closest this happened was Cortina 1956 and Rome 1960 when Italy got both games and the Pope was Pius XII. But the IOC president at that time was Brundage. So it looks like 2015-2022 might have a German pope and IOC president but NOT a German WOG. (Of course, there's always a first time but the stars DON'T line up that way.)

Interesting analysis. Too bad a German isn't considered for UN General Secretary, as there's a stronger correlation between that and Winter Olympic hsots. Oslo got to host in 1952 during Trygve Lie's time, same for Innsbruck in 1976 during Kurt Waldheim's time, and if Ban Ki-Moon stays as Sec Gen long enough, Pyeongchang will do so during Ban's time in 2018. It also works for the Summer Olympics too. Sweden technically hosted part of the 1956 Olympics during Dag Hammarskjöld's reign, and though not at the same time, London got 1948 just after Gladwyn Jebb finished his job. Want to become Olympic host? Get involved with the UN.

Benedict will not see Sochi, and the papabili are from Croatia, Canada, the United States, Italy, France, Poland and Argentina.

Where is Goethe? He was right, Germany does not sustain pressure within the Olympic movement to successfully land a games.

All this does is hand the games to Norway.

SERH TRAURIG :( but there's a way the German OLympic Comitee changes its mind. I've herad some news a gosspis that Munich will finally bid for 2022.

I still don't want lose hope that Munich will bid for 2022.

As you know, I always was in favour of Germany rather bidding for the "big ones", the Summer Games, than for the smaller Winter Games. But considering that a German summer bid seems to be far, far away, I became much more supportive of a new Munich bid for the Winter Games.

I mean, they really stand a good chance at the next winter host city election. And if they don't bid for 2022, other great European cities and winter sports resorts will bid and probably win, thus eliminating the possibility that Munich (or any other European city) can host the Winter Games before 2030 (at least). So a definite no on a 2022 bid would be totally foolish, if you ask me.

For heaven's sake, all I dream of is to visit Olympic Games in my own country -- and I'd be devastated if that wasn't possible before I'm nearly or even more than 50 years old. It's bad enough that I won't be able to see "home Olympic Games" before I turn 40 -- an age which seems terribly far away for me, because I feel much younger than 29.

Lycka till, Loreen! (representing Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012)
