Two things about the past: looking at the 1936 OWG in Garmish, remember that the OWG were really not a big deal at the time. Even the Nazis saw them as a warm up act for Berlin in the summer. I am not saying they were worthless and should not count, but it is hardly the same thing has getting a Games in more recent years. As for 1972, yes, that is a very unfortunate black mark for the city and the Olympics as a whole. But it is not fair to the city or the people of Germany to use it as a reason to deny them the Games any more than you should say "Germans should not be involved in world politics because the country was run by a nutball some seventy years ago." Do not deny, but to not use it to perpetually judge.
The Bach issue... that is an interesting fly in the ointment, true. The only thing we can compare it to is Samaranch being President of the IOC and Barcelona getting the SOG over Paris. I do not get the feeling that the situation is comperable, to say the least, but the IOC Presidential race must be above board and Munich needs to make sure their bid is clean and equal to whomever else gets in the race, be it another European city or the inevitable bid from the US, either Reno/Tahoe or Denver.
We got a ways to go, but it should be fun to watch.

The DOSB is open for a new bid by Munich for Winter Olympics. A group in Munich was founded to keep the city in mind for hosting future Olympioc Games - it is planned to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 1972 Games in the German house in London during the Summer Games.
The General secretary of the DOSB said yesterday that in december the DOSB said no to bid at the moment, but the situation can change. They want to observe the situation. The ultimo for a 2022 bid ends in 2013.
Futhermore announced Berlin and Hamburg interest to bid for Summer Olympics.

Definitely, Berlin and Hamburg should go for a SOG. If say 2020 goes to Istanbul or Tokyo, 2024 to Durban, then Berlin would have a very strong chance for 2028 or 2032.

Interesting the mention of Berlin and Hamburg. I probably would subscribe to the notion that Berlin would stand a better chance in international competition than Hamburg, but it would be great to see a Hamburg games (I reckon you'd have lots of people wanting to stay at your place Marts!).
I wonder how Hamburg would have fared if it had joined in the 2020 race? With the other Euro candidates looking shaky to many people, it might well, IMO, have found itself as one of the frontrunners.

Translation: Please, oh please, Munich, don't bid and take the Games away from my precious Tahoe-Reno, please oh please.
Besides, even if Berlin were to bid for 2028, I would think the big challenger would be Paris, given we'd be over a hundred years since the last time the Games were in the City of Lights.
With all due respect, Munich has a strong support base, they made waves in the last vote, all they have to do is submit and they have a really excellent chance of getting this. Besides, if the Germans suddenly switch to Berlin and the SOG from Munich and the WOG, it makes them look inconsistent and frankly, confused. That could hurt any bid in the eyes of the IOC.
