Its all up to the British Olympic Association. The City Council supports it and my friend who works at Holyrood informs me that the Scottish Government would support the bid. We need to wait until Feb i think for the BOA to make a decision.

Sounds like London might hijack it now in the desperate need to find uses for the Olympic stadium - though in reality they'd probably end up having Athletics elsewhere as they'd surely never sell out the stadium (at 55,000 or so) for the Youth Olympics.

There's no evidence I've seen to suggest this is the case.
I've asked the question in the thread relating to this article and I'll ask it again here. Where in Rogge's quote is London mentioned as an interested city? It isn't. And are there other sources that say London is interested in 2018? I've not seen any.
I'm not sure the headline to the latest Gamesbids article matches the story, which is actually that Rogge backs a British bid for the YOGs. Only one British city has publically said it is interested and that's Glasgow.

I realised the headline was misleading straight after I posted - but alas can not edit my posts, which is hugely frustrating.

So, Glasgow was the only city from the UK to submit a bid. I guess we see whether the BOA will officially submit the bid to the IOC.

Could the planned Scottish Referendum in 2014 scupper this bid?

Yes and no. Even with a yes vote in the referendum, we might not be Independent by 2018. It also depends on who is going to provide funding. I can imagine that the UK government would withdraw any funding, if Scotland became Independent. Although the Scottish Government would probably provide all the funding. Everything would be in place due to the 2014 Commonwealth Games so there really would not be alot to spend for these games. It would be good to think of these games being the first great sporting showpiece in an Independent Scotland, however i think that it may be slightly too early for that.

I am in the side of Scottland's independence! For reals Scottland and England are diffrent worlds... Also cuz i come from a part of Guatemala that was an independent country but they never recognized our independence so we were a country only 12 years... And still today you see that we are Quetzaltecos first of all, then Guaremaltecos... :S
But in dont think Scottland's indepence will be so easy :S
