So what's all this about? The billboard had to be taken down because there was too much gratuitous flesh? Yet, from what I know, the Pinoys have little problem with a bit of bare female flesh.

Well, from the video, it is VERY provocative. Phil society, being heavily Catholic and matriarchal, can still be quite prudish.

I have to admit that the billboards were distracting, but it was quite a sight. From this:

it's now like this:

they don't know what to prioritize here. the rugby team hasn't proven anything yet they're being given endorsements. while sports where we have chances to succeed are being put in the back burner in favor of sports like basketball who's getting all the funding despite not having any chance of being able to play in the olympics or worlds again.

Actually, these Rugby players have had some measure of success internationally representing the Philippines. A similar and more spectacular example of this is with the football team.

Anything that takes the limelight away from basketball is alright by me.

really now? is that how we measure success? what about the philippine dragon boat team who barely secured funds in order to make the trip to tampa for worlds? they're going for a 3rd straight title yet they haven't landed a single endorsement! winning a world title is considered a success yet it goes unnoticed here. is it because its not mainstream? or is it because they're not good looking enough? take your pick!

It's because this is a corporate-driven campaign. Bench saw an opportunity where they could play the 'Pinoy pride' and physical attractiveness cards to benefit the brand -- essentially piggybacking off the national football team's momentum. It was never purely about sports and the country's competitiveness in international tournaments. Like you said, there are other athletes and teams that deserve more exposure, support, and funding. Sadly this is not how it works in this country.
