Also, I wonder what Brazilians, Russians and Qataris are making of all this seeing as they have to work with this organisation. And indeed, I wonder what South Afrcians are making of it given that so much of this must have been going on while they were in bed with FIFA during last year's world cup.

And that worries me, I feel like two great World Cups (Germany and South Africa) could be tainted by whatever comes of this.

I think if any nation is tained it will be Qatar because they are the ones most heavily implicated. How much damage it does to them depends how long this drags on, whether the allegations are true, and how good a show they put on in 2022.

Salt Lake City was tained by the IOC's scandal but previous hosts weren't really. I don't see why this should be any different.

South Africa 2010 will be forever tainted by the vuvuzela and the bloody horrible football most teams played in that tournament (it wasn't a classic world cup on the pitch sadly for S.A.), and Germany 2006 will be forever remembered because of one man and his big shiny bald head. But neither should be tainted by FIFA corruption.

The biggest footballing victim of this is this weekend's Champions League final, which is sadly being overshadowed in the sports news this week.

What we sorely need at the end of this week is two of the best teams in Europe to play a great final.

There was some bad football but there also was some good. Unfortunate both winners were players of bad football.

Does it seem to anyone else that there is an irresistable momentum for change beginning to develop?

Let's all meet up in Zurich on Wednesday and overthrow FIFA in a bloodless coup. It is time to take our game back.

It's inconceivable that the presidential vote can still go on next week.

I assume it's much too late for any third candidate to declare?

Well, the only other rival has been Chung Mong-Joon and he has turned his sights on to the presidency of Korea. Platini could go up and win, but he has the same slimy apperance as Blatter.

I remember when that journo did his stunt candidacy for the FIFA presidency earlier this year, that constitutionally he was eligible to stand as long as he had the nomination of at least one FA, or something like that. So it appears you don't need to be on the exec board. But I assume a nomination deadline would have passed.

Rant of the year from Jack Warner:

Apparently, he's "not even remotely bothered"

Yep, see this thread. Deadline passed a couple of months ago and he failed to get a nomination, but he did a great job of getting inside FIFA for a little while:

I think Oprah should've made FIFA her last cause. And someone like her wouldn't have to take bribes.
