Why a new thread? If we don't continue the old one, it will vanish some day. Since most users don't know how to recover older threads here (with the help of the drop-down menu), that would be totally counterproductive.
I've just found it a little cumbersome to go back pages and try to find something.
As for Thread 1 disappearing, perhaps we can ask Rob to keep Thread 1 active. Maybe we need a little unput from ModRob on this?

I don't mind taking a trip down memory lane sometimes on some of the older, huge threads. I still get a chuckle out of some of the Rio and Abuja threads.

Thus, I continue here with a classic -- namely the source of some controversial discussion we led here several times: The lighting of the Barcelona cauldron.
This clip proves once more that the arrow flew above the cauldron and didn't land inside of it. It's obviously a clip of the NBC broadcast, and (as usual) NBC had cameras of its own in the stadium, providing a slightly different angle of the moment when Antonio Rebollo shot the arrow. Also included are the Olympic Oaths and the segment with the giant Olympic Flag. The ceremony coverage starts at 3:20 -- and after some tracking problems at the beginning, it has quite a good sound, better than previous Barcelona footage I've seen on Youtube.

Part 1 (no ceremonial coverage there, only preceding Olympic news):
Part 2 (starts when the ceremony is already running, with the playing of the Marseillaise in honour of Albertville):
Part 3: My link
Part 4 (with a rather strange and also "blooperish" revelation of the Albertville mascot which was scrapped later anyway): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajyY91ts-j4
Part 5 (stops in the middle of the "Can't You Feel It" performance): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-xtTjwoq_I
Part 6 (only post coverage -- and obviously the guy overtaped the ceremonial coverage in 1991 with some Terminator 2 behind the scenes stuff
Part 7 (same here): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yItw-Rr8Rws
Oh dear, can't they simply issue vintage ceremonial coverage on DVD so we don't have to rely on such incomplete or sometimes quality-wise crappy home recordings on Youtube anymore?

Gee, I don't remember much of the Calgary Closing including:
- the period ice skating production number (really a nice one)!
- Underhill-Martini performing,
- nor the intro of Le Chamois that way.
Also don't recall the Korean participation; and the 4 mascots getting together.
ABC must've again edited the Closing (perhaps for the West Coast) and I don't blame them for cutting out the Korean portions which were redundant considering the formal turnover to Seoul portion already took place in LA.

1. Ms. Francis who was supposed to give the Officials' oath, didn't know when to come in. Over the mike which was open to the whole world watching, she was asking: When do I come in? When? Now? Totally clueless. Why wasn't she cued properly. The athletes almost shouted her down. And when she finally did, it was the most UNpleasing voice no less.
2. When the time comes to sing "O, Canada", they have this Shoshone guy, Daniel Tlen sing it-- and of course how many people in Canada or the world speak Shosone (3-4,000?). So one could just hear the total silence the crowd had--and couldn't wait to jump in when their part came. All these P.C. moments are just deadly dull and fall flat when played before a freezing audience that just wants to get on with it!!
And then someone in the crwod also unfurls a "John 3:16" poster!! There's always one in every crowd!
Luckily, their cauldron had no glitch but the main set was supposedly blown down by the high winds earlier in the day.
