Is it possible the London 2012 cauldron will be made up of the torches that carried the flame across the country.? Is that utter madness?

I'm afraid to say -- but I think it is utter madness. ;) I mean, how shall such a cauldron look like and especially: How can it reach stability, when it's made of those perforated metal columns? And they could finish the cauldron only in the final hours before the Games' start, if they want as many relay torches used in it as possible. Additionally, the torch bearers would have to give their torches (which probably most of them buy afterwards as a souvenir) away. ;) Not going to happen, sorry.

I was imagining a tall column with them sticking iout, similar to heatherwicks B of Band sculpture and even the seed cathedral at expo. It would have so much meaning all the cauldrons becoming the cauldron

LOL, B of the Bang is not the best example to sell this idea, didn't the bits fall off that when it was first built?!

Yep, I missed getting walloped by one of it's spears by about 3 days. After that the attraction of the thing wore off pretty quick. :D

oooh yes I forgot about that. We havent seen the torches since the original low key launch, i thought it may also be a reason as the design was being adjusted for the new role. I will get me coat he he

Erm.......it's 92 days to go til the start of the torch relay. Would be nice to have a look at the uniforms, more info on the torch, over night cauldrons, vehicle branding.

Im desperate for another launch, no matter how low key. Was this one so low key everyone missed it?

I think they have filled their "launch quota" for quite a few weeks with the ceremonial revelations. ;) Seriously, I'm also surprised that we still don't know the torchbearer uniforms and the final look of the torch.

And we also still have absolutely no clue what the cauldron will look like. It's only five months to go, so I'm getting anxious about when they'll start the construction of that high tower. Not to forget: We still don't know the final look of the famous wrap. ;)

The cauldron construction will be simple as its made up of the Olympic torches ; )

Is that personal speculation or some 'insider' info?

Personal speculation, just an idea I had based on Heatherwicks seed cathedral and B of Bang sculpture. Nice idea though.
