huaiwei
The anthem is over. Now for the first item. Show part one is called "Dream". Eight giant screens show animation...which then transforms into a starry screen with a kid floating across on a boat shaped like a leaf. A water ballet happens as the stage becomes flooded. Huge water fountains rising several stories high.
olympics08
The opening ceremony has just started with a countdown and fireworks from the adjacent Guangdong Radio and TV tower. The Chinese flag then entered the stadium by two children (a boy and a girl) who turned it over the six guards of the People's Liberation Army - Guard of Honor (PLA-GOH) who in turn trooped the flag unfurled (goose-stepping) to the flagpole, where they wrapped up the flag and raised it to the singing of the national anthem. olympics08
That was amazing! Red flowers appeared on stage, joined by those people in illuminated green peasant's hats, before together forming a spring tree. The stage is projected with water, due to the ceremony's theme. olympics08
An amazing segment featuring a giant model of a Chinese junkship sailing into the stage from behind (there are tall fountains backstage). The ship went through a storm, until a new dawn was greeted by Cantonese drummers and women with shawls. The crew on the ship wore traditional Cantonese dress. Now a song is being sung, with the famous pianist Lang Lang playing the piano. PS. Does anyone know the singer?

They have an elongated pool right in front of the audience, and it was so deep they had a diving and synchronised swimming performance earlier! And now its jetskies all over! I just realised the people on the ground where actually the ones hoisting the fellas up and down. This has got to be THE one performance I am going to remember for a long long time!
